I thought this was a well thought out and constructed Mustang II suspension, It is a fully adjustable Independent Front Suspension with adjustable coil-over shocks. Nice piece. Very cool piece. I used basically the same front end only narrowed on that Metro. It was very easy to figure out too. Mine came from a Ford Fairmont, was same thing. Power rack and pinon. Lightweight but very strong. It would have been much easier if standard tubular designs would have worked. It was the first thing I tried but it failed miserably. I added 47k ft#'s to the strength of the control arms alone by forging them out of 718 inconel. That sounds way cool, I sure would enjoy seeing some pix of that! I do have to say that is one thing about those crappy little cars. That is probably the most widely used and modified front end set up in hot-rods and show cars even today. Being a self contained set up and having a rack and pinion steering lends itself to all sorts of neat set ups. As I said, it was decades ago BJ. Though in saying that, that may be the reason I need to do it again. Just to see if I still can if for no other reason.

Yes, I think you should give it another go just to brush up on your skills and try a few points of some of the newer technologies. Ya know use it or lose it sorta thing I can see you turning out something along the lines of these- *Granted the one in the first photo is a rear suspension, but hey.... I like the third photo since it shows an old school anti-roll bar. The little short bat that is mounted crossways. And yes this is the type of stuff I normally worked on.

A fairmont with coil overs? I had a drag car fairmont but it had struts From a design stand point a strut is a coil over. Only difference is the strut is not adjustable and the fact that it is also the upper suspension pickup point or locator. But it is a design that has the Dampner (shock absorber) placed within the coil spring.

That's what I was trying to say. I just didn't do a very good job of it.
Got any pix of the Drag Car maybe??? I'd love to see it!

A fairmont with coil overs? I had a drag car fairmont but it had struts No, sorry, just the rack and pinion part. It was off a '78 model police car. The r&p are very sweet. And to be honest, they were Merc Zepyers (sp). NOT good popo car material... Jimmy

If I had been a cop and came to work and they told me my new squad car was a Mercury Zepher I would have just laid down my badge and gun on the spot!
