I couldn't quite decide where to put this.
I was taking a web-based active shooter training today.
"Good practices for coping with an active shooter situation • Be aware of your environment and any possible dangers • Take note of the two nearest exits in any facility you visit • If you are in an office, stay there and secure the door • If you are in a hallway, get into a room and secure the door • As a last resort, attempt to take the active shooter down. When the shooter is at close range and you cannot flee, your chance of survival is much greater if you try to incapacitate him/her. CALL 911 WHEN IT IS SAFE TO DO SO!"
They mention evacuating if possible. Anyway, they say if you have to stay, lock the door, barracade the door, turn off your phone (so makes no noise), and decide where to hide (under desk, behind door, etc.).
So, I was looking at my office and decided I could lock the door, and move a cabinet in front of door and hide behind two filing cabinets. Then I started looking for a weapon (I do have a pocket knife). I wanted something with some reach, like a piece of pipe, etc. All I had was a pair of steel toed boots. I think they would work, but a little difficult to use as a weapon. However, I think I am going to get something like a pipe or something to put in the corner of my office.

I carry, but in places where you can't a framing hammer has lots of other uses. Drill a hole in the handle for a lanyard and you have added reach.

Or when you're at the yard sale find that great aluminum baseball bat.. throw an old glove in your car and a ball..and if you ever get pulled over no LEO will ever think twice about you having a bat close at hand (or nobody would say anything in your office).. the other thing in your office to keep on your desk is wasp spray.. just as good as mace in many instances but nobody thinks much of it when they see it

That's why you CCW...so others don't know you have it. A Keltec, LCP, or Bodyguard. In a front pocket is near impossible to spot....I carry mine most everywhere.... My mom didn't even know I carry till 2 weeks ago when I stayed the night. I emptied my pocket on bar before going to get bath and unloaded and she ask how long I had been carrying...LOL told her over 10 years she was shocked

Or you can make up a "Keychain" like I did. That is 1 lb. of lead (8 oz. in each ball) That would hurt if you hit ANY part of another man's body!

If you know how to use them steel-toed boots are great as CQ weapons. +1 on carrying a small pistol (check legalities as always, even though anyone would rather take chances with 12 people rather than be carried by six). From my own experience carrying the Bodyguard. Once it's in my pocket, the outline is barely there. If I put a set of keys or my phone in front of it: it's gone from anyone's view.

I have always carried a gun at every job I had. Especially in todays world, I would rather have a 45 in my desk or bag and take a chance on loosing the job as my life. I would still try and get out, or at least lock down and barricade myself in and stand my ground armed.

I sit next to a large window on the 1st floor. At first sign of an active shooter my office chair goes through the window and I'm out.

I got the opportunity to take an active shooter training in Houston this year put on by a former IDF operator. It was extremely high speed and we learned alot. Of course, this was from the responder's view point and not the victims'. One thing I can say is, KEEP YOUR HANDS VISIBLE when the cops show up.

If I had the chance and an elevator was near I'd get in it and lock it between floors. I don't want to go down in it in case he has friends on other floors.
