Good for you duckman. Scary world today is. Just heard about the school shooting. I thought I heard wrong as schools are gun free zones. So sad.

All you needed was a Zippo in your non "gun" hand! Yeah well, I do believe my brother would be quite angered to learn that I burned his truck down to the ground trying to ward off a hobo!

Second most dangerous situation for the American Male. . . pumping gas. First most dangerous . . . ATM withdrawal.
Here's an idea. Keep a magnetic mirror stuck to your truck. When pumping gas take it from the truck and stick it to the tank so you can see what's behind or around you if it's convex.

When pumping gas take it from the truck and stick it to the tank so you can see what's behind or around you if it's convex. I did not know that Geron but it would make sense that these two actions would leave you vulnerable to a degree. Good idea on the mirror. I always keep my back to my truck so I can see out front and I have the truck between me and my blindside. I guess we can't watch everything all the time but we can make an effort to keep watch on as much as we can. Looking over the area BEFORE you exit your vehicle is always prudent in my opinion. One other overlooked safe tip is use the pump that is closest to the station not one that is out by the street even if you have to wait for a few minutes. If possible put yourself between the station and the pump so that you are in view of the attendant. Not that they would be any help if something were to happen but attackers prefer to stay out of sight as much as possible.

Last November on way to work I stopped @ CC store@ 1am to get a coke and a BC. I park right at front door and as I'm coming out a large man in gangster garb come around front drivers sideand asks for some money for munchies. He was now between me and drivers door....my Glock was in side pouch but the Keltec was in pocket.I told him I spent all my change and he needed to back up. "Naw m**** f*****, you gonna give me...."...I pulled the keltec and leveled it at his nose backing away and opening the distance between us. He freaks and runs off. I notified the clerk then told him I was never here.....

Good call ducky ...he may think twice before being stupid again... Jimmy Thanks Jimmy. Unfortunately that's the problem and the reason that prompted me to post this thread, he won't think twice. He will with me but he will just do it again to the next person who is not so prepared. Now I really don't have any idea if that fella was intending on doing anything other than bum some beer money off me? All I know was I was not going to give him the opportunity, and besides, I wasn't going to give him any beer money or anything else for that matter so there was no reason for him to approach me. I am really pleased that this has gotten so many reads and so many responses too. It might be just that one little tip that saves us all from reading a very sad headline.

I've always believed "attitude" also makes a difference. It definitely served me well during my years of dealing with shoplifters. I've had a few rather LARGE men think they could intimidate me but, surprise, surprise! I'd stand my ground and tell'm to take their best shot, they never did. I really think they thought, she is either one crazy white woman or she knows how to handle herself. Either way, they didn't want to find out. Even when one pulled a knife on me. I had one too, it looked bad a$$ but, wouldn't cut butter....hahaha. Sent him running though!

You are very right about the attitude aspect. That fella at the station the other day thought I was a crazy little white man too but with me he was right!

Of course, I didn't mind a good old scrap every now'n then either! And I had my share of them too. Aahhh, the good ole days.

My, my, my duckie. Here here you had a poor, cold probabaly deeply religious man, looking in the dumpster for his next meal when he see's you drive up and approaches you to share his latest religious experience (probabaly Mormon) and what do you do? You cuss at him, call him names and make him have a totally new religious experience while he shat in his pants, and leave him back at the dumpster still looking for his next meal and a new pair of pants. I just think it was a good thing it was your brothers truck, now all of those liberal news paper people will be chasing him down the street, calling him names and he won't even know why!
