yeah- generator should basically just be for the first few days to keep the fridge/freezer going while you eat the contents (and maybe smoke/can the meats if you are so inclined). Maybe charge up some batteries, do some laundry etc. and then the generator becomes a liability, IMO.
The gasoline should still be stored, IMO. You never know what you'll need it for. Powering up a chainsaw for firewood, emergency car trips etc.

i think the sound of a generator and the lights in the darkness will bring unwanted attention.during the last hurricane we could hear them from two streets over. A mechanic that we know rigged up a car muffler to his generator. We've tslked to him about getting him to set one up for us but so far he's been too busy or we forget to keep asking.

for cells ,kindle(my vice) can charge in the car.muffler is a good idea.but a gen wont run my central air.we borrowed one during the last hurricane and set it up,it ran a 5k btu window unit.the noise and the gas just werent worth it.luckily the power came on after two weeks. we do have battery powered fans.i may try to rig up a muffler though.

Roll (s) of plastic clear for "windows" opaque for other stuff (roof repairs)
Roll(s) of screen, can't hurt to keep the bugs out
fencing for fixing/creating pens and/or perimeters
barb wire

I have to agree on the noise a generator makes. Mine sounds like a train running down the street. I told my wife I would have to sleep with it so that it does not get stolen. I looking to put a muffler on mine and the reasearch shows that the choice seems to be a motorcycle muffler. There is instructions how to make the adaptor but I have not got around to it.
