There is alot of good stuff on there. I just recently changed out the food in my truck bag. Some of the items listed were in there for over a year and a half. The hormel individual meals roast beef and a vegetable beef. Deviled ham, beef, chicken spread. Bags of dried soups, pastas, chili mac. It was all left during a full range of temperature extremes and not treated gently. Nothing burst or leaked and some did get squashed fairly well. Over a couple of days it was all sampled and was just fine. Hormel makes some very good canned meat products, the roast beef in the large tuna size cans straight out of the can, or in a soup or stew. Ummmm I put the white meat chicken on sandwiches or add it to noodle soup. yes I mentioned the other day that my truck would support a small country. LoL

Keeping items for quick chicken soup is advised by many people, especially doctors. If someone is sick with a cold and you don't have the real chicken to make a soup, it'll be the next best thing. Like I always say, it's better than nothing. Like Okie said, canned chicken is great to add to cups of noodles for a tasty meal instead of just chicken bouillon cubes but again the cubes add flavor to plain old noodles. Heck I even thought of using canned chicken and smoked Vienna Sausage for a roughing it chicken gumbo. Also, soups or gumbos keep your core temperature warm during cold winter nights whether you're tucked in a warm bed or roughing it out in the wilderness. I welcome y'all to add your fast, quick meals you've put together while camping out or just because you were so hungry and didn't want to bother cooking a seven course meal.

The vienna sausages I can not hardly eat (uggh!) But they make summer sausages in all sizes from tiny little ones on up to obscenely huge ones. They store well and go great in gumbos, cooked on a stick and just fresh slices with cheese n crackers. There are several of the 3/8 × 12 skinny ones in one bag. Plus they are all high in fat. Not light weight like freeze dried, but these bags are truck bags. After all I figure the chance of being stuck out in the boonies in a mud bog more likely than a zombie apocalypse? Not that we don't pack zombie gear. LoL

Okie do you have any idea on the shelf life of summer sausage? I've eaten smoked Vienna Sausage and am okay with it but I'd like to try the summer sausage as that sounds better. Thanks for suggesting those.

I was with you until you mentioned all that spicy seasoning. Canned chicken was one of my mainstays in college.

What I want to know is how to find the rice balls. Those little kernels are so small you must need a magnifying glass.

We usually stock canned chicken ham and tuna and they are great with Knorr sides for a quick meal

Cajun I am not sure of the long term shelf life. Mine never lasts very long. The small vacuum sealed ones in my pack have made it several months ok, since deer season, until I rotated stuff a while back. Okie do you have any idea on the shelf life of summer sausage? I've eaten smoked Vienna Sausage and am okay with it but I'd like to try the summer sausage as that sounds better. Thanks for suggesting those.

Next time I see them I'll buy a couple to try to see what I'm missing. Any other ideas, swing this way and let me know.
