Attaching a rope to a bucket can be very tricky, but well worth learning. Can even be used to hang potted plants, hope you like it ;D

Got a solution for when the pot has no lip? I've done potted plant hangers for decades, but never had a lip to use.

Got a solution for when the pot has no lip? I've done potted plant hangers for decades, but never had a lip to use. You can adjust this knot to be well below the brim so no need for the bucket to have a lip. Here is a pic using the barrel hitch on a no lip container

True, but I don't think it would work for pots that taper to a narrower diameter as one approaches the top. I have an aloe that's going to need repotting. Right now it weighs about 15 lbs; after the new pot and new dirt, it'll probably weigh close to 20 lbs. I'm thinking of using 2 of your barrel knots placed perpendicularly to each other and interlocked at the bottom of the pot. That and a decent hook should work well. This aloe plant is a veritable burn clinic all by itself. Thanks for the video!

I think the problem you will have using two lines is keeping them even so the pot is level. let me know how it works......Thanks for watching ;D

If I may chime in. Angelhelp, you might look at tying a diamond hitch for the bottom of your new potted Aloe and then bring up the four lines to utilize Offtrails barrel hitch. I think it not only would work well but would look cool too! I'll look up a little info for you on the diamond hitch. They were a must know rigging when I was working for a packer/Elk guide in Colorado.

I await the diamond hitch I'm not sure but it looks like it would take a lot of rethinking to incorporate the diamond and the barrel together. Not saying it can't be done but good luck ;D

Hey guys, sorry I bailed out on this. I had a little electrical scenario here at the house and it kinda blew my internet's mind Good video Offtrail. I have tied off and lifted literally hundreds of barrels but I have never used that one......at least until now!!! Thanks! Angel, I was dead wrong about the diamond hitch! Sorry that was some sorta brain gap I suffered I guess? I do have a knot in mind to do what you wanna do but I'm wore out right now after all the goings on. I'll think of it and get back to ya on that.

These "instructables" variety is what I taught myself to make, just from seeing them in stores and being more interested in making my own so I could use my own rope. There's a reason macrame is an oft-used technique for making plant hangers; I was looking to see if there were any workable alternatives. Once school is really done and I no longer have school stuff lurking in the back of my head, I will fool around with some ideas. Don't worry about coming up with something quickly, wtrfwlr; I'm not "free" until next week -- and there's summer school yet.
