Everyone down there OK?
I used to live just North of Houston and what they call a bayous are mostly manmade drainage ditches and they are the only place rain water has to go during any run off
Those things would be dry as a bone, then come a good rain and they are running 30 MPH and 10' deep.
And over there toward the Blanco River
I used to have a deer lease South of about halfway between Brackettville and Del Rio back in a bunch of canyons you wouldn't even know were there
some of them 200 feet deep and a 1/4 mile wide (more giant deer in the heads of them than girls in Del Rio)
if it was raining anywhere near you or North of you
then you didn't want to be in one of those canyons when 20' of water came barreling down them
it was funny how the wildlife always knew, if the wildlife all of a sudden started leaving the canyon, you better too

We still need water here in the Nacogdoches area.... maybe an inch here overall...The main rain line was a bit more southeast of us. Lufkin across to Newton into the Houston areas where hit hard. We probably got close to 6 inches at the farm down around Newton....

All is well here in Bastrop County at home and work. Home is about 150'-200' above the river, and that wasn't an accident - it was mandatory during my property search before moving here. My shop is probably about 75'-90' above the river. We've pulled in 12.6" of rain over the last 7 days. It's been GREAT for the 180-200 trees planted in my yard during the last 3-4 years. The ravine on the North edge my yard is still flowing water pretty good. But it totally sucks for some folks. Sadly, people keep rebuilding their homes, over and over again in the same bottom lands that flood every few years. They don't have flood insurance because they built in a clearly delineated flood plain. Today's news images were the same thing that we see whenever the rain comes down hard: Families being plucked off of their roofs by boats and helo's, crying and telling the reporter that "they don't know what they will do now because they have lost everything - again......" The local KOA campground about 2.5 miles from my house, sits about 30 feet above the river. Unfortunately, the river came up 35 feet this afternoon..........could go higher tonight with runoff. Marc

There really is only one way to fix stupid and that is to remove ALL the warning labels from ALL products. It'll eventually fix itself.
PS. Well there is one other way but I just don't look good in orange.

This is Highway 71 which is a main road between Austin and Houston. The normal water level is 30' lower that this. The campground in my previous post is about 200 yards to the left of the bridge. Another round of storms dumping water on saturated soil could bring it up to even more dangerous levels.

Well there is one other way but I just don't look good in orange. Again, you have touched on something that is current for me. I was recently asked: "I'm not going to see you on TV in an orange jumpsuit, am I?" I've decided that there are very real reasons for getting grumpy as I get older...... But then, I can only hope to someday get as old as you!
