Picked up a good deal today at a garage sale, Cobra CB and magnetic mount antenna for $10.00 works, I even tried the antenna hooked up to my handheld Cobra CB of course it really extended my range as well. I had planned on buying a magnetic antenna anyway and was looking at spending $50+ so good day for me. So that now gives me 2 handheld CB's and (2) 12 volt vehicle style CB's Now that is a great deal.. good for you.

Love CB's mainly for dirty jokes and smokey reports while doing long distance driving. As for survival? I'll stick with silence or smoke signals LOL

I've got a handheld, and a bigger car mount cb. Mostly use them for car travel and communicating at events and such.

I see this is the last goose egg for topics.. So. In my rural community we're probably a half mile from the 4-5 people that I would want to communicate with in a situation. No matter the situation. While I realize CBs aren't the most secure comms I think from a price point.. some handhelds could probably fit the need. Do any of you plan on using CBs or FRS handhelds. I know WC had mentioned in another post in a different world once about what he was going to use. Anybody have a suggestion? Thanks. I have 6 around here you never know when one will come in handy or what you will pick up on a open line.

Depending on how far you all are apart, you could get some surplus hand crank ARMY telephones and run your own landlines. That way you could talk between houses privatley. WCR2 Good idea WCR2. I hadn't thought of that. Do you think it would be possible to tie into existing phone lines or are they not compatable?

WCR2 The trick of course is finding some depending on where one lives. Military surplus is practically nil in my area. 99% of my acquirings all came from online.

I was just wondering if one could construct a more sophisticated network using unused telephone wires post shtf. At that point I imagine they wouldn't be being used, but then upkeeping them would be a PITA. Anyway, just a thought. Burying lines underground would not be easy either at that point, Iguess you would have to have that in place before said event.

Hi there, the black n tan twin flex wire is really easy to bury, just use a shovel to part the ground, it dont have to be deep! the problem hits if you need to cross roads/paths etc

We'd need instructions on how to use them, how to hook them up in the first place... all the basics. We have zero experience with anything like this and no knowledge base from which to draw.

WCR2 Can you tell me where to find a trio of those? How would one go about setting it up? There is some homework for you!! Try and keep the "getting them" part local, I am not but a few minutes from you and need to stay local.

I have had a good handheld CB for many years, I also have a set of 6 FRS radios and a couple newer FRS/GMRS, all but the FRS only have weatherbands as well. In the box is also 2 bearcat uniden handheld scanners, the more ears the better I figure!

I am working on putting my radio back in the car and setting up a base in the house. I have been out of it for about the past 6 yrs.
