I believe it was CCMaMa who posted about the alarms from Dollar Tree. Their pin system is merely magnets, it has a high pitched shrill and batteries last in them forever, all for one dollar. Just another option.

I though I had seen something on here but I couldn't find it. I knew several people had ask about an inexpensive option. Besides tying them to doors so it goes off if the door is opened they will work as a perimeter or back trail alarm by setting a trip wire to pull the pin or magnet.

Yep they would be ideal rigged up as a trip wire. It could be set up with monofilament to be invisible and high enough so woodland animals don't trip it.
