I think the thread is fine since we are discussing "throwing" weapons in general and make no mistake they are weapons. One that we left out that I actually like a lot is the small simple bolas. You can quickly make one with a couple of heavier fishing weights and string. It has been years but four 1-2 ounce lead weights and a few feet of cordage can be very effective as well... Thanks for posting about the bolas, I had forgotten about them. I believe with practice they could be very effective.

weighted nets will work for close small game as well A small cast net can be used in more then one way to catch food I use to throw a 20',15',12',10' ones for shad to use for catfish bait..... but they sell smaller like 5' ones that can be used in ponds and streams and might even be used for small game... another thing to have around is a good seine. While it ain't a throwing object you can catch a lot of fish with one fast in ponds etc...

knife throwing reminded me of my first off-quarters living in the USMC it was an apartment complex right off of highway 5 in south LA couch to front door was 20' I decided the door made a good target to throw a m14 bayonet into. Then all my friends had to try it and it became a common activity. after about two weeks the solid core door gave out and we covered the inside with a 1/2 piece of plywood and kept throwing. In 3 months it used 3 new pieces of plywood and when I moved out I bought a new door. But I was really good a throwing an M14 bayonet at 20' knife throwing indeed All it takes is practice and the ability to control the rotation, kind of like throwing horseshoes.

But like most tools that gather food. you have to practice...even with a seine. I've taken friends with me to collect bait and they end up empty handed. So if anyone plans on using a seine for minnows, make sure you practice with it now...not when you need the food and desperate.

I was out today doing a bit of fishing and looking for a good piece of wood for my first ever rabbit stick. No luck on the wood but i did manage one smallmouth, rockbass & sunfish. Next time i go think i'll leave the fishing poles behind and concentrate on the throwing stick. Looking for a good piece of dried oak, something that will hold up and take a beating. Don't you know i have to find just the right piece, i remember trying to find a y branch for a slingshot...took me forever lol. I also did a little practice slinging the sling today...got to keep the arm warmed up.
