All that 22 mag talk and then 17 on top of that and crap.... Proud new owner of a Savage B 17 Winchester Super Mag. Bolt with a rotary type magazine. No optics yet. Will have on by the end of the week. Bought 3 boxes of ammo in 3 different brands. 3000 fps with 20gr. They also have a 25gr at 2650 fps. www.savagearms.com/bmag/bmag/No friggin idea why I bought it. Went into Academy and they had it on sale. We shall see hopefully by next weekend. Jimmy

Never had a 17, but know a lot of folks who love the flat shooting devastation on small/mid sized animals. Nothing bad about a 20gr ballistic tip screaming through the air at 3000 fps!
Cool stuff!

Dang it,I don't have one! I have contemplated it kinda often. I see them a bunch on the used gun forums, but I don't know why? If it is lack of ammo availability, or the guns. Let us know.

the savage is a great gun. Has a great short cycle bolt and a great trigger.
i don't know much about the cartridge other than it was hard to get at first
looks like sports academy has plenty now at about .30 each
be real good for yotes and hogs

Higher priced that the regular 17s. The ammo has been slim until now though. WM has it. Academy has 3 different brands, 2 different sizes and lots of it. .32 per round. Comes in 50 rd boxes. Friend of mine has a regular 17 and just goes on and on about how accurate it is. Hoping this 17 Magnum will also be accurate. Jimmy

The first two flaws were easy fixes + the guy was dropping the mag to the ground with each change
The video brings out flyers with 3 guns he tried out all used
all was good but the flyers which required a bedding fix, not hard but shouldn't be needed
I don't think the newer savages with the accu-bedding will be like that, but if you get flyers you either have loose iron to composite bolts or need some bedding work.
take the iron off you may find a poorly cleaned up composite that may just need some trimming but may need bedded. Bedding a composite is much easier than wood.

I'll take those two issues. I could got it going as the author did. He was pretty much happy with the rest of it. Good stuff thanks for posting that. Jimmy

Considering a rifle that costs $279 may need bedding....I remember lots of high end model 70s and 700s that needed bedding...between my camp perry gunsmith and me we'll get it to shoot....
