The Hebrew bible states that Methuselah died at 969 years old. Everyone, even Methuselah dies except maybe Enoch who is said to have been taken to heaven without dieing. Every living thing dies in the fullness of time.
Dieing is easy compared to living. Yet many never learn to live, instead they waste their time trying to avoid the inevitable.
On the other hand, our children need our help if they are ever to have the opportunity to experience what it is to live. Even if you have none of your own, there are lives out there worth helping. Helping someone obtain even the briefest period in which to live is a goal that gets around the inevitable death. Through our children, and those we help, we continue to live long after our bodies have returned to dust. That is a goal worth fighting for and dieing for.
Therefore I prep, as I can help no one if I can't help myself. Whatever I can do to help my children, and or others, to facilitate survival long enough to have lived even a little while, is worth doing.
My take on it for whatever value you choose to assign it.

I had posted this on a new thread but deleted it to post it on this thread cuz for me it's part of my prepping. Today I went to town to look for crawfish for tomorrow. While in town I stopped at two of my favorite thrift stores. At one I found an old black and red plaid looking thermos bottle for 90 cents. At the other one I found another just like the first one only this one came with the lunchbox for $2.50. These would come in so handy in so many ways with prepping. They're rare to come buy so I keep my eyes open for them. Oh yea, I did find ten pounds of crawfish and three pounds of boiled jumbo shrimp. Hot Cha Cha baby!!

Yep, had me a snoot full of mud bugs yesterday. It has been a good season. Earliest I've ever seen them. Decent prices too. On the thermos part, I purchased an Ozark Outdoors version of the Yeti 1/2 gal insulated bottle. Yeti = $80......Walmart = $15..... I filled it with ice and then 33 ozs of cold water. That was at 1pm 4/10. I'm at 93 hours. Ice still in it. Granted it's sitting in a 75° inside environment, but got to say I'm impressed. Hijacked my own thread.... Jimmy

I just love home experiments with new products. Thanks for sharing the info. .....116+ hours....still has ice... Jimmy Totally awesome. I wish I had a half gallon thermos to perform the same experiment for comparison. Sounds like you definitely made the right decision buying the Ozark Trail container. I need to check into those. PS Jimmy I believe those would make great xmas gifts. Just saying.

I would say that's pretty dern good to keep ice for 5 days in just 1/2 gal container. Oh the big 5-7 day coolers where you put 40 lbs of ice in is one thing. Maybe 1 1/2 of ice covered in water, to stay for 5 days is another deal. I was impressed. Jimmy

The ozarks are great. I started off with yeti, then rtic (good price and product) same as yeti. Then walmart came out with ozark trail, now that's all I buy. They have all sizes and are supposed to have ice chests maybe by summer. They are great gifts Cajun stock up. Even have a little hi ball size..supposedly perfect for long island tea?

Just saw in one of out local WalMarts that they had the Ozark Trail coolers. The hard sided one they had is the smaller size - same as my Yeti. I may get a larger one if it comes in. They did have two sized soft sided coolers, both with a wide opening.

Well, with my move to Texas I literally got rid of all my can goods....they weren't any good. Been busy with work but I figured it was time to start giving my preps more attention and looking over on what I have or don't have. For example, I found my firesteel rods were breaking down meaning into powder. So I'm currently looking into how I can keep it from happening if at all. Things are not looking good however you look at it.

Trying out Rocky Mountain Tumbler....an as seen on TV cup that I never actually saw the commercial for. So far it has held ice well and is heavier duty feeling than ozark trail. Having each, this 32oz and the ozark trail 24oz, i like the size and comfort of the OT, the lid on the RMT though is way better.
