Was looking for a reliable .22 for GHB looked at Ruger 10/22 take down almost bought it I have 2 but aren't take down units. Then got to thinking, in a SHTF scenario I may have to use .22 shorts, .22L what ever is avaiable, so that killed the10/22. I already have a fancy Henry that shoots anything, so I decided on the blued, round barrel Henry Hooo1 small game rifle, shoots any .22 ammo, no magazine to worry about. Picked it up today, hit the range this weekend. I believe $300.00 well spent.

I have one of those to go with a ruger single six. No complaints about either.

Nothing like a Henry!
I am a 10/22 fan - I love mine and I shoot them reasonably OK. But I just won't spring for a take down - because I'm a cheap skate.
In fact today, I was trying to decide on which to add: A Buckmark Camper or a Ruger American .22 bolt gun. The Ruger can use my collection of 10/22 magazines. That is the only reason I didn't buy the Buckmark already - still on the fence though. I really love the idea of a .22lr pistol, but I already have subcompact 9's and .357's for concealment.
Lately, when I get an itch to shoot, my scoped Ruger 10/22 in particular occupies my attention to shoot out at 100-120 yds. That's really funny to me because I have always been a 12ga slug and 7mm mag guy and I haven't lit off either remaining Mosin M44 in many months.
I still occasionally practice with slugs out to the end my vision range - but there is just something so purely simple about the .22 Maybe I need to go threaded barrel and a solvent filter to use my subsonic's........

Ohh, mercy, so many choices! For the money and ammo versatility, I think Henry would be the choice. But Ruger has the mag change ability thing going on? And I like the buckmarks? Only one choice. = All of them.

I have the lever and the Pump-Action Octagon both
great fun to shoot, but
working the action takes you off target, not a lot, not anything not recoverable from quickly, but needs to be considered
the 10/22 stays on target until a mag change
not a big factor for a .22 and I wouldn't trade my Henry's for anything, but
as I have aged and have had strokes that have made it harder to use my hands, etc. the mechanical features of an auto loader over a bolt/pump/lever are more needed or at least valued.
not a fan of the buckmark but a big fan of the mark II/III/IV especially the new one, MARK IV™ 22/45™ LITE they really did good fixing some old issues with it

I bought a henry because you can use all three ammo types (LR, L, shorts). However, I have not seen any L or shorts in a LOOOOONG time. Seem to see plenty of LR.

Same reason I went with the Henry, in a SHTF scenario I think shorts and longs would surface from folks who don't shoot much, heck I have some dated 1980 that still work fine. Plus no magazines to malfunction or loose

I didn't even know that there was a speed loader for it. I had some HUGE straws (they have the powdered candy, pixie sticks). I was going to use those as "speed loaders", but only on the range.

Well took my new friend Henry to the range to sight in with iron sights. True to form it was spot on at 50 yards. Peppered the bullseye area, after shooting AR15 a week earlier seemed like I was shooting a BB gun

I just love hearing about folks gettin new guns. Not as much gun sharing as we once had. Guess every one was afraid of obuma. Nothing is a secret much anymore, might as well enjoy talking about em. Maybe even a picture if I knew how anymore on this darn tablet.

As much as I itch for a new gun or two or...... the ease of buying a few boxes of ammo on every trip to the store keeps using up my gun budget. But the CZ Rami just keeps calling me. Almost as much as a 6" 454 Casull or a 10" BFR30/30. But then the Mossberg 930 JM Pro is really cool....
Last week I actually stopped and thought: "Maybe I finally have enough ammo now." Nah..... that would be like finding a leprechaun riding a unicorn.
