I thought a thread for posts on lessons learned from these two major events might be useful I'll start it off with this one Hurricane Harvey 2017 preparedineveryway.blogspot.com/2017one thing that stood out was her comments on 5 gallon buckets. i think everyone uses some 5 gallon buckets one they floated and two they leaked.Food I have stored in buckets are also sealed in Mylar bags so I don't think them leaking would be a complete disaster but floating might be an issue. My retreat is on a peninsula, surrounded on three sides by lake water. The buildings are on high ground, the lake would overflow the dam before it go high enough to flood the buildings. We have had the water high enough the single dry land entry was under water, but we can always get in and out with watercraft. In fact we seldom use the land bridge to keep it looking like there is nothing there. But the fact the buckets float even when loaded is an obvious factor I over looked and something I am going to have to look into. Like a casket in a cemetery, things that are buried but will float out of the ground need consideration. There is more good info in the articles and I am sure everyone has heard or will here of some lessons learned.
