23 hens, almost $16 for a bag of layer pellet. I mixed mine with corn 50/50 and they actually did better and cut feed prices a bunch. When I grew the corn, it even saved that much more. You'd be suprised how far just 10 100' rows of field corn will go. Course I only had 12 chickens. Never needed as many as you have. And you might want to consider giving them table scraps also. I do that too. It's makes quite a difference in the feed bill when you look for ways. The ladies love the scraps. Jimmy

Well the only survivor is my rooster and he sure looks lonely. Not sure what got em but there's nothing left. Sorry Dennis about you ladies. Look for gaps, it don't take much. Minks are bad around here believe it or not. They love chicken. They can get through VERY small gaps... Jimmy

yes, table scraps. ALL our table scraps go to the chickens. They are right near the garden too... so as I'm harvesting if there is rotten or otherwise unsavory looking produce, it goes directly into the coop...
they love produce more than anything!
also, instead of buying oyster shell you can save eggshells and crush them and give them to the birds. You want to crush them so they don't recognize them as egg shells and get any ideas about eating their own eggs...
