I've been going over things in my head that I will need, use almost weekly, take for granted but want to have on hand because it's easier to have on hand now than to try and make in post SHTF. Q-Tips, straight pins, writing paper, buttons, toothbrushes, safety pins, hair brushes, etc.. you get the idea. So what's on your list?

just thought of another one this morning: coffee filiters!! Yeah I don't drink coffee but I buy filters (and coffee). I don't smoke either but I've stocked up on rolling smoking tobacco with papers. I need more thread. I have about 10 spools and about 30 packets of dental floss (my daughter brings to me when she visits, she's a dental tech) and toothbrushes. I try to think of things that I don't necessarily use everyday (paperclips and thumbtacks) and try to make sure I have some things on hand. In addition to duct tape, electrical tape, masking tape, scotch tape (velcro strips) Larger needles for canvas or heavy duty sewing. I think I want several bolts of denim material. I want several tanned leather hides (no I don't know how yet)

If you are going to learn how to tan hides, I suggest you get a couple rabbits and learn how to brain tan so you don' have to have a bunch of chemicals. Plus you can eat the rabbits!

Recipes for basic home use items which may be no longer available but you may have the ingredients to make them. Grandpappy has this info plus in three books he published which I hope to order one day. Check out the link below which does list quiet a few we are familiar with. www.grandpappy.info/rhomemad.htm

I'm thinking about replacing my aging refrigerator, stove/oven and cloths washer/dryer. They still work, but I believe a depression is coming soon and I want to go in with good equipment. I believe those items will be out of reach soon. Any opinions on that idea?

This is just my opinion Will, if all of your other preps are basically covered then maybe yes... if things get so bad that the grid fails you'll have some really nice things that won't work. Do you have capability of optional fridge/oven/washing machines? I'm still thinking over TJ's stuff about the solar refrigerator.. While I won't like doing laundry by hand I could. A solar oven could be more useful than the range/oven I currently own in the midst of SHTF.. but my stuff is only five years old too..
