For me...personally...trade would not be an option for at least a couple years. I would get by one way or another. I would at EAST want to get through 2-3 harsh winters before venturing into trade with people I don't know and many that I DO know.
I would consider trade with a few folks I do already know...IE: WC & family show up and wants to trade...I would do that.
But IMO, the first 2 years, contact with others should be limited. I will have a hard enough time dealing with folks stumbling across my place and keeping the place secure. Afte that length of time AND a lengthy time operating a HAM and keeping in touch with others, I would venture to a bartering/trading area...that is IF there is something others might have that I seriously need.
At that point...several folks together, armed to teh teeth, several folks on the "outskirts" hidden but observing, well armed and well trained, and only packing a few limited goods for each trade session, demanding prime for my items, since they will be mostly made up of food.
Going back home will be the tricky part, making sure you are not followed. Don't need some theif tagging along at a distance and sneaking around at night, or bringing others to raid the place.

All legitimate concerns,one on one trade would be a death sentence. And to travel would put you in great danger. Someone moving is easily spotted by anyone sitting, waiting to ambush a person. I think a good topic would be how to travel on foot and not be detected. I'm going outdoors today so if anyone is interested in doing this go for it, great thread by the way  |

Your supplys are half gone... and you want to trade Away some of what you have left?.... I don't know about everyone else but the stuff I put back I need....darn if I'm trading it away.
And in the midst of this scenario you want to aknoledge to others that you have supplies? .... even if they don't try to scr-w you you can bet they will eventually tell someone who will
"No, I don't have anything to trade....we are starving can you spare ANYTHING ?"

I could be trading a pair of shoes, a coat, fishing tackle, and the list goes on.  |

I'm not thinging of this as a trip to the flea market to see what kind of deals I can get. I know there are some holes in my preps and i'm sure we'll all find something that we might need or maybe we went through something faster than we thought we would. For that purpose I also stock extra items. We have a free section at the town dump so whenever someone brings good clothing I grab a few items and put them back. I especially save childrens clothes because they grow fast and people will need them. I also have some nice cast iron skillets, and other items so I won't drain my supplies if I need something to bargain with. |
