Most of the women in my past life perfered wool coats of various styles. Coats make me crazy because I feel trapped in them. I'll take a jacket every time.

I have a Helly Hanson shell and then I layer underneath. My layering depends on the temp. I have been down to -5 and still have been confortable. My problem is that I get to hot so I always have to wear underarmor.

I have coats, jackets, and so-forth for many different occasions.
It would be hard for me to pick just one.
I like Pull-overs alot. North Face TRI-Climate stuff, Polar Fleece, Carhartt, and stuff like that. GEN 4 ECWCS for Army attire. Those GEN4 Parkas are NICE!

I really like the Carhartt insulated hooded coats, and bib overalls for the money. But it is usually not terribly cold here for too long at a time. Anything heavier and I feel like Ralphie's little brother on A Christmas Story. Fall..and I can't get up.

In rain, I'd go for something waterproof or at least water-resistant. Depending on temperature, wind, and humidity levels (how "raw" it feels), I'd use something like the Land's End squall parkas with appropriate layering beneath, as needed.

I bought a Browning oil cloth coat from ebay for less than $50 and it is pretty awesome for not too bad wet weather. I would love to have a really nice Filson tin cloth one with a wool liner but, they are pricey! For the really nasty stuff, I cant do better than my Browning duck hunting parka. Cordura gore-tex shell and hood over a goose down filled under-coat that zips in. Buddy, it is warm and dry even under the most crappy conditions. I also love it cause it is in old school camo. Looks just like this one here: Attachments:
