Talkin' CCW is like talkin' about the next election. Right now I'm carrying the Ruger LC9. Reliable, very concealable, cheap (350ish). Cons: Loaded chamber indicator on top , Frame mounted safety, For CCW's it's a Prince and Pauper thing. The LC9 is a nice little pauper. I'll probably trade mine if I like the little Glock 9 (compares to the Glock 42) that I've heard is on the drawing board. geron, the Glock .42 is out. DH just got his the other day. He's been doing the happy dance ever since...LOL! Check with your gun shop. They have been having waiting list but, as DH did, he was smart enough to put money down along with his name (only person smart enough to do so, which bumped him to the top of the list). He was able to get one of the 4 that came in.

I like the look of the 42, but with my paws, the 30 is about as small as I can deal with.

I think you'd be surprised. DH has some big paws himself and has no problems at all.

I too like the bersa. I don't like the LCR trigger at all. Perhaps the Lc9 is different though.

Since the OP was back in 2012, I'm curious what CGU bought? Sorry! I forgot to update since it took me a while to make friends with the cost of this plus they were hard to find. I think I got it in July or August 2013. I had to go to Sigg Academy to get it. It's rare for me to find something, anything that I really really want to have so on those rare occasions I just buy it. Otherwise I'll waste a lot of time wishing I did. I like it. The compact size works for me. It fits my hand nicely. No issues with it being picky on ammo. No problems with it at all technically. That being said it is not my favorite target firearm. The grips are slim and the recoil just seems to slam it back into my hand and it's not comfortable after a while. I need to practice with it more and get used to it. I also got the LCP. I probably need to change up my practice sessions, Haven't been for a while but I was working 2 different firearms in the same session and maybe that's not a good idea. Not sure.

CGU are either of them your primary handgun? If so that is the one you want to practice with the most. Shoot the other one frequently enough that you're capable and comfortable with it so you don't have to hesitate if you ever need it.. but I think spending the most time with the one you want to shoot the most is the way to go. I was planning to just work with the LCP since that is my EDC due to size. I've discovered I'm not as good with a short trigger pull and I was alternating between short and long at the range. I'm a decent shot with all of them but I would like to be better. Especially when you factor in stress if I ever had to use one. I've also been working on conditioning. I use a 3lb weight and go through the motions of drawing, retention and extension. I hold the extend until my arms shake.

I know that many will turn up their noses, but I've really come to like the Tristar C-100 9mm pistol. It's CZ-75 clone, made in Turkey by Canik, imported here by Tristar. Mid-compact size, 12 round mags. Academy Sports sells them for $329. but often puts them on sale for $289.00 with 2 mags.
I normally wouldn't go looking for a gun like this, but I know three people who have owned them for awhile and love them. My son in law is one of them, so we fed his with every type of ammo we could find from +P to low powered steel cased cheapo rounds. On day one, exactly one FTF on one round of Tula brass in the 2nd magazine ever run through it. The next 300 rounds of mixed types that morning fired and cycled perfectly. He keeps practicing with it and it never lets him down. He's into it by about 900 rounds now. The other one is owned by a neighbor who has fired just under 2500 rounds of without a hiccup of any kind, but he has a large bulk of one type of high quality ammo. I know that these are not large numbers of rounds being fired - I'm not saying that it's the perfect duty weapon!
I really do like the way the gun feels and how it handles and shoots for me. After shooting this one, the Smith & Wesson SD9VE felt even more like a toy than before. I have to say that I'm impressed and this may be the best budget 9 out there!
If a person has bigger budget, by all means buy a better gun. But this would make a perfect "leave it in the truck" pistol.

I try not to snob out on anything. I'm not independently wealthy. I buy what I can afford. If I know something is absolutely of superior reliability, I'll save until I can afford it.

I'm not a gun snob either.. which is why I own an RG .22 LR single action revolver. I've owned that gun for over 30 years and I came across it while in the Army. I did come by it under unusual but legal circumstances. That said I like all kinds of guns and enjoy anything that shoots reliably. I try not to chase after guns based on their ancestry or their 'name'. I want it to fit my budget and I want to be able to buy ammo for it and I don't want to have to baby it.

Speaking of "leave it in the truck" guns or "bury" or "get me to my gun" guns I have to admit I use a HI-POINT 9MM, in some of my easier to get to/find caches. Because they are cheap enough if I lost one it would not be a big loss. They are ugly, everyone hats them, they have a bad rep for not being any good for extended fire, but they do fire and I will take it over nothing any day. Plus if I thought my guns would be confiscated it would be what would be found to justify my 9mm purchases. Here is one for $140, you can find 380 for $100. www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=390771853Another gun for the same uses would be a STAR 9MM. I had one for years and as long as I kept it clean it would fire. You can find them in the $250 range www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=390404379just saying a disposable gun sometimes fits the bill
