First time I seen this trick, what do you think would be the damage to the gun. Doing this with a full choke could make your gun explode. It could come in handy for taking large game as long as it's safe

I used to do that all the time when I was a kid jus cause I thought it was cool. I never knew it was an old time trick or anything I jus wanted to blow stuff up!

Why in the world would you do this in the first place? Did someone show you this? Just trying to understand the reasoning behind doing this in the first place. My first thought would be a less effective shot and could be dangerous

Naw, I dreamed it up on my own. I was an adventurous teen! Glad I grew out of all that and only make wise safe decisions nowadays!

I do not understand how they can go from a "nice three round cluster" to blowing out the side of a bucket with a "projectile". What happened to the projectile on the paper target"? Same shell, same gun, same barrell he says. HUUUUMMMM!! Jim

I also drilled little holes in the bullets of 22's to try and make my own hollow points! Why? I dunno? Coulda just bought them to start with?

Plus a full choke might be a problem.

My reason to make cut shells would be if all I had was #8 and I needed a slug. By cutting the shell most of the way around the shot stays in the end piece and acts as a slug. No problems with choke because the plastic of the shot shell is just like the wad would be. I have never had a problem with slugs in a choked gun the wad stays around the slug until it is out of the barrel.
You can do the same emptying the shot out and mixing it with melted wax on crayons and create a slug.

With the 22 shells i have done the same and is a lot more common. As for the shotgun shells I think it was good thinking on your part. Thinking outside the box is how things get discovered

Yeah! You shoot me with #8 at 40 yards your just going to piss me off, but you shoot me with a #8 cut shell slug and I'm not going to be anything any more Slugs or a lot more expensive but they are what you want to shoot deer with a shotgun. You can buy a whole box of #8 for what 5 slugs would cost. When you melt the crayons and use bright colors like red, you can see the shell like you would a tracer.

Wonder if there legal to hunt with in Ohio? Ive done my share of opening up shot shell to load them with unusual thing like dimes or split shot clamped on a piece of fishing line. But never thought of cut shells.

Not sure if they would be legal, I think it would depend on the warden and it he understood how it would work. But I suspect they would find something wrong with it and say no.

I believe your right woodyz, just keeping us under control is what they do best. In a survival situation who would care, just a neat little trick that could put food on the table.
