Picked up a Chinese (Norinco) SKS in a deal not long ago. Its in good condition and has a synthetic 'hunting' type stock on it. I also got a few mags and the pig sticker with it. It even has a scope mount on it. (Not that Id put any real high grade optics on it).
Sooo, what are the comments on the SKS? Pro's/cons welcome...

Have two of the Yugoslavian 59/66 and had no problems with them. They are a bit heaver then the Chinese but perform as good as any MBR should. We enjoy shooting them.

I have a Norinko SKS...it's a really good gun. I put a Tasco scope on it, and she hits dead on. It still has the original wood stock though. I did remove the SKS mag and invested in a set of duckbill mags so I could have a higher capacity. I like that it shares the ammo with my Norinko MAK90. And the ammo is not to outragious...yet.

They are wonderful little guns, if you don't expect too much out of them. Decent accuracy at mid range. Function is usually good, but fit and finish leaves alot to be desired. I have a few in the project pile that came with plastic stocks and no mag boxes. I have indended to replace the parts and wood stocks when at a gun show, but so far have not. There is a ton of them out there that have suffered home gun smithing and need salvation. Hope you enjoy it. Buy ammo while you can.

we had one right out of the cosmoline, hit 3 inch groups with open sights at 100 yards (but now my eyes suck) The one I have now is a Yugo model, and is very reliable. Although I haven't used the integrated grenade launcher ....

Had two and liked them - very good accuracy exceeding my shooting ability. Certainly better than my cheap AK's at longer ranges, but YMMV. I've always like the 7.62x39 round, it is a good hard hitter (roughly the same energy as a .30-30, but shoots a bit flatter) and it pokes a big hole when it hits.
Learn to check your head space and buy a bunch of ammo now before Obama's team stops all imported rifle ammo from coming in to the country.

I have one (in pieces at the moment) and love it. Good shooter, takes abuse, accurate.

I used to have one. It was a great gun. I had a 30 round magazine for it. It added excess weight but it also cut down on chasing.

It's a Yugo, and haven't been able to find grenades for it either....LOL. Had the firing pin re-done and spring added....sort of a carry around auto loader, fun to shoot ammo still pretty cheap.

what do you think about steel cased ammo for SKS?
I found such a great black friday deal on steel casings I went ahead...figured the best likely gun to fire it would be my SKS....
