No reason to be homesick. That cabin door has no lock on it! Come on anytime.

That wall looks identical to the many walls I walked around at Gettysburg. Very neat pics. Someday I'll come visit. I don't care if we hunt or not but I'd love to spend some time at the wall. Thanks for sharing.

Just come on whenever you can. I go whether it's hunting season or not just to be there. There is lots and lots to see and do. I've been going up there for years and haven't even begun to do and see all I want to! It would be kinda neat to take one of those metal detector things up there and around some of those old places.

I just happen to have one of those detector thingies We would have to sneak it in but i don't think that would be a problem. Very nice pics thanks for sharing, we all still getting together this year? No promise but I'm sure going to try.

Around here those horizontal trees are called "Trail trees", marker trees, or boundary trees, supposedly made by Native Americans and others(?) to mark trails and such. Generally hard wood, (last a long time) bent and formed as a sapling, grows to form the horizontal trunk. In the woods, anything horizontal is somewhat rare, (think of looking for a deer's back), your eyes are drawn to it, making these trees a good marker even in snow covered areas. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trail_treesI know of several, and actually a corner of 4 properties has a marker post in the middle of a one of these, so some on thought to mark that corner a long time ago......and a real good place to rest your bones.....LOL Fantastic pic's......getting me anxious for our turkey season in April.

Some great info there, thanks hunter63! I never thought about that angle of them. I've seen a few of them and always thought it was just a freak or storm damage? I know most of the corners and lines up in those hills, come turkey season I will surely try and connect a property line or boundry with this one. Now that I think about it I think it is in a direct line with that rock wall along that ridge. I'm gettin revved up for thunder chicken season too! Been purrin and cluckin in the truck and round the house tryin to get ready. I killed my first ever Tom less than a 1/4 from that very tree and nailed a great breaded hen while hidin behind that rock wall!

When ever I think of trail marker trees, I think about how much money was spent to put this sign in the middle of a swamp..like you couldn't tell.....LOL No shut Dick tracey.....
