I talked before of us aquiring the railroad track wheels that mount under a pickup truck on hydraulics so the truck uses the tracks. As an update we mounted them on a chevy 4wd and tried it out.
I was not happy with the noise, the mount and unmount time, and the mounting of the system to the frame.
As a result we put the wheels on a golf cart and tried that, it works better for several reasons but the friction really eats the battery. So we went to a propane golf cart and I think that is going to work out. One person of sound body can place it on or off of the track, it is queit and it carrys a load well. I just don't like the wheels being mounted on it all the time and advertising you are using the rails. We are working on a quick disconect system.
Now we are working on puting rail wheels on a bike with a small propane motor, with baskets front and rear. But we want to be able to take off and remount the rail wheels easily and quickly.
Just food for thought, the more I am disabled the more I try and figure out ways around it. Things I wouldn't have thought about 10 years ago.
Like making some sort of rail trailer a wheel chair or hover round could be mounted on.

A skid is a viable option, but it does get you back to the multi-use concern as it does the weight and durability. A good carbon fiber skid could resolve those concerns with proper design.

I think Missasip is on to something here. If you take some knobby tires off some kid's dirt bike this set up would have no problem on rougher terrain.. Pushing it could get strenous in the woods, but I've seen women push their babies on trails as they get their runs in. I like it.. great idea. WoodyZ's idea about a $25 sled sounds like a good plan too. I'd have to go look again to see how you would lash items to it to understand it though. But that sounds doable.. Me and Wtrfwlr could have used it to haul that doe out of the woods easier. cool ideas.
