How many people here have dedicated fire kits in their bags?
I don't keep all my fire making materials in one place. I have them spread around my pack and belt pouches. Is having all your fire stuff in one place kinda like putting all your eggs in one basket?

I guess that depends what you consider a 'fire kit". Every coat, jacket, hoodie (I like hoodies) packs, vehicle, tool box, gun case, has a knife, Bic lighter/ferro rod, compass, in-or on it some where.
In my packs (many) is a true fire kit, lighter, ferro rod, tinder, char cloth, wax fire starters, candle end or birthday candle, cotton balls w/PJ, lens...etc....In zip lock bag.
Oh yeah.... in vehicles all of the above plus road flares, for when something really needs to burn.....

I spread mine around and have a variety. My car GHB has 2 firesteels, lighter and matches plus PJ cotton balls, esbit tabs, magnesium bar and some fatwood.

All my BOB's have "fire kits ". Just seems the right thing to have not knowing which bag you may have on you.

The BOBs have them, but I have an additional strap-on dedicated fire bag similar to the dedicated FAK.

I have a dedicated kit myself, but I have other fire making materials dispersed throughout my gear.

While hiking or camping I do carry a dedicated fire kit. I rarely open it since, as many others I carry other fire making tools in my pockets, fanny pack, jacket, etc.

I have kits in my B.O.B.s ready to go at all times. In my car i keep a lighter, and I fire steel along with my G.H.B....better to be safe than sorry. To me been able to start a fire is one of the keys to having a chance of survival.

Most of my bags have a dedicated fire kit, but I have different fire kit sizes and contents, what I call a camp fire kit, a large fire kit, a small fire kit and a minimum fire kit. Each is it's own bundle with in a function bag/kit. so i can find it fast, use it or replace it as needed.
But not to miss lead a 72 hr vehicle kit will have a large fire kit + the FAK with in the 72 hr vehicle kit will have its own small fire kit, the cook kit will have a small fire kit included.
Its a matter of the functiom of the bag all of which will contain several ways to make fire. The bare bones EDC or neckless kit may have only a fire steel or a bic.
My kits are by function and duration with the kit itself ranging in sizes from min, small, large, to camp with all content compartmentized by function and size, caches contain replacement functunal bundles allowing for quick reload of kit or multi reloads.
modular functional, multi sized kits for all groups works best for me.

I can see why people would want a dedicated fire kit. It's handy to have everything in one place. I am too fearful of losing that kit though. That's why I spread out my stuff in my gear load out.

Got one on my side every day every where I go...along with the leatherman, flash light, mag bar, ferro rod and flint and steel...the dedicated kit is in a micro tin that fits in the back of my belt pouch.
