Well I finally jumped on the polymer bandwagon but Glocks did not fit me, the M&P series only had the same capacity as my 1911, and the SR45 is not yet available. I had considered Taurus 24/7 series as well but lack of aftermarket support turned me off of an otherwise nice weapon. Also in the running was an EAA Witness which a couple of buddies own and they have been fantastic to date (about 3 years that I know of)
I decided on the XD for a couple reasons, it fits my hand well though a tad long in the handle but it is a full size model, I have some experience shooting them since my brother has an XDM in 9mm (19+1)
So lets start off with the box:
This is a very nice polymer case that is airline approved and has die cut foam to keep everything secure.
Inside are: belt holster, mag loader, double mag pouch, gun, hex key to adjust holster and mag pouch, cable lock, empty chamber fob and barrel brush. All in all that is pretty inclusive.
The holster and mag pouch have picatinny rails built in to store lights, lasers or the mag loader. Considering there are three, I can take all listed.
The holster fits the gun very well and secure but if you wear a web belt as I do it does not hold it firmly in place while moving. I will be replacing it for normal use but will still use the factory one around the yard.
The mag pouches are friction lock design (tighten them up if your mags fall out easily) and they work but as with the holster I will be replacing it as well.
The loader works pretty good though in my opinion it does not push the rounds down quite far enough for an easy load like my brother's 9mm does.
Now to the gun:
There are three safety items which include
a 1911 style grip safety
There is a thumb safety which is ambidextrous
and there is a trigger safety
