Was surfing for some ammo online last night and it seems some places are at least getting ammo in stock. Some of it however, is outrageously priced though ! CTD had 1k rds of SS109 for $999.00. I saw a 20rd box of Federal 556 55gr ball for $34. That stuff used to be 6$! WOW! Thats pricey. I saw some of the Win 555 rd boxes of 22 for $25 at Sportsman Guide. They also had some other 22 in stock. Some of it high, some not. Dont get me wrong, there were alot of empty e-shelves but, just the fact that places are getting it back in inventory is a good sign. I think fairly soon prices will deescalate some and maybe even return to normal. Of course, I have been accused of wishful thinking before....

The cabelas in hazelwood is quickly resupplying their shelves. Herts steel case .223 for 6.99 for 20. They had some american eagle, in the black box for 10.99 I think. Still no primers of any size. My reloading store is selling them @ 4.99 per 100 at a limit of 200 per day. 9mm defensive rounds in stock, not target rounds. Still no .22 to be found save for the CCI 500@49.99$.

My ammo dealer friend told me HE paid 500 for 1000 rounds of 223. I'll wait and hopefully it'll settle down.

It is my personal opinion that we will see new taxes on ammo and reloading supplies, once the anti-gun nuts max out their authority. Add in the obvious and ever present inflation and there is no doubt that ammo and reloading supplies will get more and more expensive.
How many of us have said “wow, I remember when this ammo was $xxxx ?” That's why I started bulking up when the November election results came in. All of the shelves were full, and there great low prices on "sales" at all the retailers. Bulk ammo suppliers were getting down to $.20 and $.25 per round for 5.56/.223
I refuse to pay panic prices. Walmart is on my way to work, so I swing in and buy a couple more boxes at a time. They often have what I buy the most of, but still a 3 box per day limit. Six boxes if my wife is with me: - Brass cased .223 55gr fmj from Tula (rebranded Fiocchi) for $17.00 - $20.00 per box of 50 rounds. - 12 ga slugs from Remington or Winchester at $12.00 to $13.00 for a box of 15 rounds and about the same for 12 ga 00 buck. - Plain bulk packs of Federal .22 lr hollow point is still $22.00 for 555 rounds. - Federal and Remington .357 mag hollow point is still $ 2.00 per box of 100 - Lots of .30-06, .30-30, 270. 7mm
Brownell's is catching up on back orders, so I received my second batch of Pmag 30's ordered in December after the panic wiped out the shelves - they charged my card $12.99 each last week (plus shipping)
Yes, I see it easing up a bit. That's why I'm continuing to buy - at the lowest price possible.

5 WMs I use are still empty. At least as far as 22, 223, 45, 9 and most 308, 3006, other rifle calibers. Some 3006, 40, 243, 708, 270.
It's crazy.

Panic-buy prices are certainly still in existence, as can be seen on sights like Gunbroker. Also I must agree that items are starting to come back to the shelves. At our local Dick's 5.56mm in 20-rd boxes from Independence (Israel) comes in once every 2 weeks or so, so I'll go in and grab what I can before the rest of the buying crowd does (6 boxes max). I'm still betting that the vast majority of ammo buyers @ Dick's don't own any guns, but buy the ammo for the sole purpose of reselling it online at much higher prices. I'm all for a free market, but egads! At least I don't have to buy from them.
I'm also seeing 7.62x39 ammo come in and not fly off the shelf so much. Kinda figures, as the targeted guns by the current political climate are AR15-types. There's also 22LR in stock, but only in shotshell (originally just CCI, then Federal. I bought a box of Federal just for hoo-has. Can't say I expect to ever use it in the near future.). 30-06 is still there, but is slowly diminishing. Shotgun shells are still abundant but only in 20 gauge, and the remaining 12 gauge is in 3 1/2", and there are a few 16 gauge shell boxes. 243 Winchester plus 7mm are also there, and never seem to be bought.
I recently bought some mags online at a price I'm willing to pay for, and am amazed I was able to buy them for the price. Not the greatest deal out there, but certainly not the worst either. Anything past $20 for any 30-rd mag is a major ripoff IMO, and I was able to get those mags for less than that. Not as good a deal as my coworker selling some he bought for $15 a mag, but still... Vast majority of sellers online still want mags at around $30+ per.
Prices will go down when NOBODY buys them for the currently-asked prices that are ripoffs.

Jimmy,
Our one Walmart gets their shipment each night at 8:30 to 9:00 PM. I swing by on my work in the morning at around 7:00 or 7:30. There is generally enough left to get my three box limit, but it's all gone by noon.
But, .22 MAG, 30.06, 243, 270, 7mm and 12/20 ga bird shot rarely seem to run out for more than a day or two. A few weeks ago, there were days with not one box of any kind of ammo - zero.
After the forest fire we had in 2011, I've developed better distributed storage plans.

There are some spotty returns. I would say based on whats out there right now, it will roll into the end of the year before it's semi normal. That is assuming no further legislation or EO's go through.
There will not be an overall return to previous pricing for the most part, but there may be a temporary bounce downward.

I do think that a lot of new AR15 owners bought guns to sell at gouge prices and many are soon going to find themselves stuck with extra guns they will not unload for the profit they had hoped. Soon enough we will see alot of those going for near or at normal prices as they need to liquidate. From my perspective, the market is flooded right now and the ones willing to buy at top $$$ panic price have done so. Kinda like the housing bubble only with semi-auto guns.

And some of those speculators have credit card bills that are due - or late - so they need cash. Others are willing to trade their older guns for anything tacticool. My best friend had a gun stolen awhile back. It was a particular 1975 .44 magnum given to him by his Dad, who is now long gone. I stumbled across one today and the owner was willing to trade his revolver for some 5.56 green tip and Pmag 30's. I'm really picky about wheel guns (I brought my feeler gauges and 6 rounds to test) and this one is sweet. My friend doesn't know it yet, (he lives 1500 miles away) but he now owns an exact copy of the gun that was stolen from him: I don't make the kind of money required to buy stuff like this! But the current craze for anything AR made it possible for me to help a friend who has given me 25 years of help and support when I've needed it most.

Very cool Marc! And I agree some of the panic buyers will be offloading soon. Yes. And personally, I'm looking forward to it. I was getting an AR for Christmas and then the SHTF.
