Yeah that is the law here in NY. I know however that the sports groups are making the constitutional challenge.

thywar it looks like your senator is there for the right reason. He says he is there to insure records are not kept after the fact. Supposedly when you complete a gun buy and use your CWP to clear the background check, a record of that transaction is not supposted to be kept once the verification process is complete. As I understand it your senator wants to be sure that issue remains intact for these private sales as well. How much I believe that the records are completely eliminated is another subject, but I think we need someone in there trying to keep this information as simple and as short lasting as possible. If you want to see were your senator ranks on gun control or with the gun guys, take a look at this chart www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-fix/wp/2012/12/17/where-the-senate-stands-on-guns-in-one-chart/

I like Coburn, I really do.. just the fact he's dealing with Schumer makes me want to puke.. I think his idea is fine but I never believe anything a liberal says about 'gun control'.. NEVER. It's the first bite of the apple and then they can't wait to cut the whole tree down. Too much bureaucracy and they'll make all of us criminals before it's done.. I say NO!!!!!

Seems like it would be completely unenforceable without registration. How would they know whether or not you did the background check? Or where the gun came from in the first place?
And they'll probably come in later and say just exactly that. They can't enforce the law without registration, so they need to pass a new law for registration. Then that opens up a whole new can of worms. And that of course is what they wanted all along. Just to chip away, one piece at a time.

Not intending to muddy up this thread but I think it is along the same lines.
Our legislature presented a bill to be signed into law that keeps the public records of, what we call concealed permit holders, sealed and no longer available under Freedom of Information. Our Democratic Governor was not for this but he just happened to be away at a Governors Conference at the time it was presented so the Lt Governor, who is a Republican, just enacted his lawful duties as acting Governor and signed it into law. It will be law tomorrow.
