You've received alot of good input here MM, I would only like to state that I have always believed in the importance of shooting what "fits" well in the hand. Whatever you choose, it should fit you well and be a good match. Just my $.02 +1

Full size may be to heavy an awkward to lug around all day. Handle as many as you can, to see what feels right and what is appropriate for your mode of carry. Pocket, in the waist, on the hip, in a shoulder rig, a fanny pack or shoulder bag. Some people have different guns for different seasons and modes of dress.

Definitely am considering the fanny pack for summer time when not wearing much. And thinking about inside the belt line or shoulder holster for the other three seasons. I do have rather "thick" hands so I'll be handling whatever I get before hand and if possible finding someone with that particular gun to see if I can shoot it. There is definitely a lot of knowledge on this forum on this topic and i'm very grateful. Thanks again

Staying with a good quailtiy handgun in a useful caliber is your number 1 objective. If you were need to pull it and use it, you want it to go bang. As much as I think 9mm is as small as one should depend on, just my opinion, if you have a $$ limit, I would make sure I have that qualitiy weapon, even in a lesser caliber. Everything depends on it working when you need it to. I would much rather have a functioning .380/22 LR in a dependable weapon, than a 45/40 in a lesser weapon. Your life may depend on it. Just some extra thoughts. Jimmy

Kind of partial to glock 30's myself. Asking advice like this is like asking Ford, Chevy, Mopar, etc. Everyone will have their preference.

At least now I have a lot to go by. I was honestly completely clueless on small handguns before. (still am I guess) But the advice helps regardless how varied it is. Welcome back BTW!!

I run a glock for my main carry, but for what you were asking for, they are huge. I've got about 2k rounds through my Bersa and no hiccups at all. You don't have to take my word for it though.

The Ruger sr9c is pretty small and light also. My carry is a 1911 full size frame and compact barrel. A bit heavy but 9rds of 45acp goodness and enough weight you are unlikely to ever forget its there is comforting. My wife has a taurus pt145. A little thicker but a really nice and surprisingly accurate little gun. Review to come soon ( I hope)

We've all suggested auto loaders to you, BUT don't over look some of the Revolvers also. Maybe a little short on fire power if your a round whore but still good for defensive use.

I personally carry a Springfield XD subcompact in 40 s&w in a Texas Heritage IWB holster by Tucker Gunleather. I carry mine all day from about 6:50 a.m. till about 10:00 or 10:30 p.m. and it's a very comfortable setup. Mine is just like the one in my picture but as others have stated, handle some and find what fits you best.
