I'm watching my local stores for a .44 Mag revolver. I shot a friend's SuperRedhawk last week. I really liked it but I don't think that I need or want a double action. So, I'm looking for a Super Blackhawk. I'd like to have the option to hunt hogs and possibly white tail with it. But, it will probably be more of a companion piece to a 44 carbine or lever rifle. Ruger makes the Super Blackhawk in a 4-5/8" and 7-1/2". I think that I would be more likely to carry it if it were the 4-5/8" but I still would like the option to hunt with it solo if I wanted. What experience do you have hunting with the 4-5/8? Any other thoughts? I have carried a 5 1/2 Smith 29. It was a custom shop gun that I purchased from a dealer that ordered it and had it forever. He gave me a deal on it. Anyway that gun was a handfull. I could maybe group it at 25 yards with 3-5 inch groups. My same N frame 627 with 5 1/2 barrel in 357 was a 1-2 inch grouper. A 44 mag in a short barrel is just a bear. Not saying it can't be brought to bear by you, but I say why fight it. If you get one to match a carbine, fine, but consider a longer barrel and heavy as you can find. I'm like Hunter, I never cared much for the same caliber thingy, but to each his own. So all I say is make sure what you get you can do a good job with. Good luck in your quest. Keep us informed!! Jimmy
