Alright Wtrfwir, here is a win for you You can see he has two of our quail in him, and he is alive and will stay alive. But I have been notching their ears so I can identify them and he is #3 this year. He will just go for a ride and get turned loose at the farm. All of them have been in the same cage and I can not figure how they are getting in, but we will rewire it tomorrow after this one.

But I do make really cool lookin stuff outta those hides! If a mans pen is gettin broke into then by all means protect your stuff and they can go get their own!

Oh, I bet you do to snuggle with bunnies like WoodsCustom and kitties. I actually like having a few of these around you don't have to worry about rats or mice, with all the feed we store even with it in plastic barrels we still get mice. If these guys would stay under the coop instead of in it I would let them alone. Every time I thought we had fixed this cage/pen, well we will just move these birds and rebuild it, because I don't know where they are getting into it. And it naturally has to be the Japanese Quail they keep eating because we have less of them Got more peasants from the incubator today so I think as soon as they are done we need to hatch some more of the JQ's. These Quail roosters holler like chicken roosters crow, only its kind of a worebell, not like Bob White. So they attract every predator for five miles But we can hatch out 30 a month so .......... Buzzards gotta eat same as worms.

Yeah if you remember we had a Bobcat problem in Feb/March. Fixed it too. Maybe I should find a good taxidermist or learn how. No then I would have another storage container of junk I don't need.

It would have to be a big lamp for a covey but a pair would be nice looking. If you have some nice Bobcat pelts or something interesting I like to trade!

Peasants keep slowly hatching out, have six live ones so far. One thing I noticed, they are much more aggressive then the quail and they are acting out flying by 2 days.
We lost one duck baby today I guess to heat.
Have three doe rabbits with new litters, bad timing on my part. When breeding time comes we bring in a friends buck. We keep just three doe and one buck for now. We breed all the doe to one buck, then again to the other buck. We get good strong mixed litters (this time 8, 8 and 10). If SHTF we could increase the herd quickly.
Chickens, quail, rabbits and ducks now have water bottles of ice to lay around. Thanks Dink for reminding me about this, my brain only works half the time it seems.
When we used to have large building of rabbit pens we had water coolers at each end and we would put ice in the bottom of those. Cages of weened young would get ice bottles.
I thought about a water cooler for the chickens, ducks, rabbits and quail. They can all come in to the coop, but temps are supposed to drop and stay below 100 for the next month.

Lost all of the new baby rabbits yesterday. Dang!!! Sorry man. I lost one doe to the heat as she was delivering (first timer) and the 2nd one (2 1/2 yrs old & experienced) was due the same time and she died about 12 hours later. I am down to 1 doe with 8 little ones (4 weeks old). Sad to loose so many, I completely understand.

To update we only hatched 9 pheasants, all girls. They were trying to fly from day one. This pic has a grown one to the front and 3 of the little ones behind her. We are hatching Bob White Quail right now but when they are done we will try pheasants again for some males.

Like Dink we lost baby bunnies during the June heat. Some how when we were moving them around to clean out the cages we got the male and female to gather and being rabbits you know what happened. I were going to wait til the last of Aug to re breed, but I guess they had other plans. See had five and raised 3. We are going to trade a pair of the ducks for two young does and a buck and mix up our blood line a little better.

So we thought all of the peasant we had hatched were females. But surprise they are not. They have to be 4 to six months now. Here is a female and second is one we thought was female but will be a male. It sure takes them a long time to show compared to the quail. Well except the bobwhites they take twice as long to grow as the Jap and the red mountain do.
