So excited our final installment in the solar world comes online Friday! 4kw more making our optimal production 10kw. Cannot wait to see it fully working:) (Ok it will be just like our "current" (no pun intended) system but really bigger). Just had to share.

Way, waaaay cool! 10KW gives you tremendous latitude. Anyone would be jealous to be able to collect that much free energy falling out of the sky!
I know that this isn't your first rodeo - so I'd love to hear about the inverter (twins?) set up, charge controller selection and battery bank layout. (Surrette or Trojan RE series I'm guessing?)
Did you set it up for grid/standalone or straight off grid? (my choice)
Inquiring minds want to know!

Ok I will do my best to describe it. This is from the quote: grid intertie with battery backup so we can use it when grid is down: PV system
40 Suniva panels (260w 100% US made!) 2 Outback flexpower dual FX3048T inverters 3 Outback 80A mppt charge controllers 24 MK8L 16-DEKA 6V 380Ah Wet battery Ironridge ground mount racking system
Full battery back up for all key systems - freezers (2), fridge, well pump, many lites (all LED), fans for circulation of wood stove heat and tons of other things on backup.
If we ran everything, we would have 40 hours backup. But if we pick and choose the key stuff, we have at least 3 days and maybe more. They say more than 2 days but they included things we wouldn't use and would unplug or only run when sunny!
Solar Thermal (already in use) 2 Evac. Tube Solar Thermal Collectors Caleffi Controller 1 - Solar 3 Caleffi pumping station
We are pretty darn excited about it all:) Long time coming.

That's a great system! I'm a big fan of Outback and those 3048's have strong surge capability. You are really fortunate to have so much raw capacity.
I've never used evacuated tube collectors, except for industrial app's where we needed really high temperatures. (those were parabolic tracking type) But then I've always been in Southern climates where flat thermal solar panels rock.
Congratulations on putting together a system that many only dream of having!

Marc THANKS! We did have flat panel solar thermal collectors last house but with our cold temps we could see the drop off in winter. Hence the evac. tubes. We are looking forward to being NET ZERO shortly. ICF home, built to Miami Dade standards of wind, metal roof and wood burning stove as well as heat of course. Agressively passive solar, green built with all energy star appliances except elec. stove (no gas in house). It is truly a dream come true.

With a 10 kw power plant, an efficient passive design and good appliances, I would think that you will go beyond net zero, and into positive territory on an annualized basis.
Are you figuring to produce around 1100 -1200 kwh per month on average? Or is my math wrong for your latitude?

He sent us a picture but as you know I have not been able to post one. I am hoping with help to get it up online. As with our last installers/solar guys, we have become friends for life. We feed them lunch/dinner when they are here (now past tense:( ), they bring me home -made honey, I send home my pickles, soups, breads.
His last email said "Attached is a picture of the array so you can send it to your fellow solar friends. The total official PV size is 10,140 watts. "
