It would be neat if you could convert some of your customers into a prepay type situation. Sort of like the seed bank programs that people pay into. It would possibly give you some additional extra cash now to purchase land, materials and equipment and put you in a better position to help them when the time comes. Just some food for thought (no pun intended).[/quote]
We have farms around me who do just that. It's called a CSA (community supported agriculture). Basically the farm has a certain number of shares that they sell and then those who buy them come for a weekly/monthly pickup of produce depending on the size of the share. We have discussed it and may move in that direction eventually as most CSA's around here are focused on crops and our focus is more meat and dairy, It may just be an open market for us. Yes definitely if SHTF very soon, we could use that money to better position ourselves. Thanks for the input Somuchtodo!

I think that could be a good plan. First I've heard of 'CSAs' but that's a good concept. I would assume those are really tight/strict rules on how that works and what they're allowed. Yeah if you're the only/first meat/dairy member you could do well. After reading the post about everything you make I almost wanted to go on a road trip (well I'd have to drive through NY so maybe not).. but it sounded real tasty

If you are concerned about being armed, I would be happy to arm you for the extent of your visit Then you would only have to worry about the travel time

I don't want those New Yorkers to take away my RG single action .22 six shooter. I havent' been that way in a long time.. would love to do it again sometime and you can bet if I'm within 200 miles I'm detouring to your place.

Good points mark. Do you find it hard to adhere to it? There are some things on my diet that I doubt I can find locally. Almond milk for instance. I've never tried raw milk, but I doubt it's on the Atkins diet.

Raw milk is 'essence'.. I grew up on it. It's rich and heavy and it just plain tastes good.. I drink 2% now and when I come across bottled whole milk I look at and wonder how I ever drank anything so thick. But deep down I know it's good and good for me.. all that rich cream off the top.. ohhhhhhhhh

I've never tried raw milk, but I doubt it's on the Atkins diet. Not familiar too much with the atkins....I'm assuming it's low carb, low fat? Nope, no local sources of almonds up our way bud Basically just have to give up on anything tropical. But it's not more difficult than the atkins I assure you! Plenty of veggies (mostly root vegetables in the winter), meats, and fruit (apples, berries, various peaches and pears). I gathered my own butternuts etc. from the wild. I have found some sources of local winter veggies grown in greenhouses. There are a few farms in my area that have wheat flour. I made my own butter and lard, but I think there are local sources for that as well. There are different groups that you can find online that have certain rules about how they do it and also share resources. So if you just google "localvore NH" I'll bet you will come up with some stuff. I must confess, I haven't been doing to well recently. Got lazy I guess (It does require a bit of focus to eat this way). I hope to get back on it soon. Though now is a difficult time for the fruits and veggies. You can find them, but you have to work at it!!

Just low carb. Low fat is not recommended. I'll look into this a bit deeper. I plant on going all out with my garden this year. I still need to get up there for your next wilderness class so maybe I can forage more on my own.

I can't imagine why raw milk would be off the table then. Yup, don't know if wildorganic will be able to make it. They are international speakers now and I don't think they have time for small fish like me. But I suppose I could run the class myself, it certainly would not be as good, but it would be cheaper! Edit* wildorganic are the professionals I hire in to run the class.

Regular milk is jammed with carbs. Not sure why. Above my pay grade. I don't know if raw is or not. I'll have to check it out.

Thanks, but I think I could use another forty or so years of experience first
