"BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND" is a review of the
MIDLAND XT511 Hand Crank Two Way Emergency Weather Radio.
I've been using the Midland XT511 Base Camp radio for about 4 months now. I have used almost all of the capabilities this radio has to offer. I'm VERY pleased.

•Dual Watch - Lets you monitor two channels
•Auto Squelch - Removes annoying background noise
•Keypad Lock - Locks in your selected settings
•Monitor - Checks for any activity within your channel
•HI/LO Power Settings - Lets you adjust transmit power & conserve battery life

•Keystroke Tones - Audible tones with each key press
•AM/FM Radio
•Alarm Clock with Snooze
•Flashlight
•USB Connector -Allows you to recharge your cell phone in an emergency
•Mic and Headphone Jacks
•Battery Life Extender - Provides longer battery life
•5 Power Options - Uses 4 standard “AA” batteries, Rechargeable Battery Pack, Dynamo Crank, AC Adapter or DC Adapter
*Maximum range (22 Miles) can only be achieved over water or open rural areas under optimum conditions. FCC license required. (I don't have a license and haven't been arrested yet.)
This radio is VERY easy to operate and you will experience a short learning curve. I keep the manual handy just in case I forget how to do something with it.
The Two Way GMRS radio works Really well. Through the woods, you can expect about a mile, maybe more of range talking between radios.
NOAA Weather alerts are picked up easily. The AM/FM Radio sounds really good. When you have the hand set hooked up, the radio plays through the hand set speaker which is small, but pretty good for what it is. I use the Channel SCAN all the time, works great.
