excuse my ignorance but what the hell is off gassing? Many polymer plastics use volatile chemicals called plasterizers to give the polycarbon structure flexibility and other attributes. The cheaper polymers use fomulas that break down over time and in many cases due to exposure to ultraviolet light. Such a polymer will exhibit strength in the short run but become brittle and weak over the long run. The higher end polymers are stabilized and do not break down in the same fashion. In the case of the cheaper ones, thy off gas those volatile chemicals as the polymer breaks down changing and weakening the over all structure in the process. thanks for that, now i understand

I've just got a call regarding the test results on the Pmags. There was no off gassing problem found. Whatever the reason the military is killing them for, its not that.

That is good news to hear CWI, now if they will drop the price down to about five bucks, the world would be great.

So any guesses why? I would think the sand would be just as hard on one as the other. Or maybe because everything is made in Asia they decided to pull a switch before they got caught flat footed. Would not be hard to slip a batch of bad ones in until you never know if it was going to work until it was too late. You could stop a lot of incoming if you messed up the mags.
And I have seen the military do these kind of things just to keep the supply guys on their toes, who knows its the guberment.

If there is any mechanical/chemical reason it would have to be UV deterioration given there is no off gassing issue. That doesn't make any sense either in the big picture. 10 years in a desert would be the worst case scenario for that. I would think there would be massive reports from veterans floating around by now if that were the problem. I've never heard of even one case of it.

I understand! I am just trying to think of things maybe spark a memory in some one. I have used both styles with no complaints, but I don't shoot 10k rounds a week any longer either.

I've only had a few of those magazines until now. Hadn't really seen a need given the piles of aluminum ones in storage, but after testing, researching, etc based on this thread, I've ordered a few dozen of them, and have suggested the other members of our group do so.
I smell a political rat involved in the Military's decision.

I hate thread necromancy, but I've had this on my mind heavily lately. After much thought, I'm assuming, with the military's penchant for everything Surefire, as well as the fact the 100 rnd Surefire mags have basicallly been nonexistent on the civvy market yet. I'm takin' a wild guess, but I almost bet they're replacing the Pmags with Surefires. my 2 cents fwiw...
