I have purchased 1/2 pts in glass bottles. I refuse the plastic bottles. I've wrapped them in bubble wrap and store them. I believe them to be very important trade items. You have the stress of TEOTWAWKI and it will be by far one of the most valuable items you will have. No I'm not planning to give anyone hope at the end of the bottle, but considering 80% of the population takes a drink of some sort or another, I bet they will have something I can trade for and they will be very accommodating. Jimmy But, I like hope at the bottom of a bottle! Actually, glass 1/2 pints are a darn good idea for barter that I hadn't even considered. I'm just a mild beer drinker these days, so I hadn't considered 80+% proof spirits. Now you have me thinking of sweet flasks like Southern Comfort and a wide choice of liqueurs. Something for everyone...... These would keep forever and potentially become extremely valuable to the right people. Good lesson in wearing blinders and not realizing it. Marc

I agree Marc.. after I read Jimmy's post I thought.. well DUH!!! Maybe I'll skip Academy and hit the Liquor store.. (ok not at 8 AM).. of course if I were to get stopped on my way home to Camp David next weekend with the oddly shaped pieces of metal that contain a minimum of 8 rounds along with 10 1/2 pints of alcohol I may need bail money.. but I like that idea of glass pints

LoL! Yes, alcohol is sold in 1/2 pints too and what I would consider a great trading size.

He said that to be an antiseptic, alcohol needs to be 70% or greater. To burn without a wick, alcohol needs to be greater than 40%. Most retail liqueur is <=40% with the notable exception of 151 and Everclear Read more: survivalbunker.proboards.com/thread/6196/why-whiskey-preps#ixzz2fIXewhJfIts Everclear, and the 151 proof is why I buy it, cut it 1/3 ec to 2/3 water or juice to drink, and medicinal purposes and straight for antiseptic, it burns fine with out a wick, buts its too expensive to use for heating exclusively, but works good to get something else to burn. I like the way the bottles stack, but when I am going to carry some I move it to a stainless flask or bottle. I wanted to add rubbing alcohol will make a fire but it will burn your pot or cup black and it takes twice as much as everclear to boil water and ec burns clean.

I gotta say that it was a booze basket I won a few years ago that got me started with the 1/2 pints. I won some contest/drawdown thingy one Saturday night. I paid $1 to enter and won. I got 6 1/2 pts of assorted alky. They were so " conveniently sized" that I hit on the idea of stocking some for barter/trade. And what's nice is at this point they are cheap. I actually recounted them today and I have 26 half pints. 12 are Jim Beam (imagine that) 10 are vodka and 4 are rum. I would like to get it up to 40-50. It takes no space to store them. I wrap 'em in bubble wrap and there they are.... Oh by the way, they are not for burning or sterilizing.....they for drinking.... Jimmy

WOW this is old I use my own distiller now Then make your own while supplies are more readily available and stash the bottles for later to trade, drink and be merry. Well I'm wondering if Jimmy has his goal of fifty half pints he mentioned earlier.

Speaking of Sports Academy
1000 .22 for $20.00
I was the 1000 buyer of their .22 sale and got the deal
good thing to cause the Grand Kids have shot over 500 rounds since they have been here
Note to self buy more eye protection - I have enough ear muffs but was short on eye protection so I didn't wear any
guess who got hit in the eye with hot brass? YEP!

More on the subject. I tried storing apple pie in jelly jars but they keep disappearing
I think its a troll but it might be alcohol mice, we have them because we are so close to a nuke plant, some kind of mutation I think
