I would hope to think you're right about me only describing the t.v. preppers but I seriously doubt it. The t.v. preppers are so gullible and buy everything these salesmen tell them or want to sell them. If these salesmen are so smart why don't they devise more secretive entrances and exits totally unseen. There's just so much wrong with their plans. If I were ever on a show like preppers I would show only the inside of the bunker and would wear a mask. No outside shots what so ever and I would keep my identity secret.

I change my mind, I'd like to be on "Survivor" so I could show them the true meaning of the title and boost their ratings.

I have to rethink my hidey holes and come up with something less apt to fill with rainwater. With plants slowly drying up now is the time to do so but I'm hesitating 'cause my surgeries are around the corner and don't want to catch any rashes from poisonous plants to delay them.

Not mine either but I like.
The safe is in the wall and the safe door is covered with sheet rock, so you just close it up, retape it and repaint the whole wall.
I am trying to decide how to build at TN West and I am worried about an earthquake. I am really leaning toward vertical silo type rooms instead of horizontal. But not six or seven stories, just a series of one or two stories connected with pipe tunnels. When it is dug out and poured I could run a ramp down to the bottom and back trucks in and stock it before I fill the dirt back in.
An I am thinking about putting them under a half buried geo-dome. I think the half buried dome would with stand a 300 MPH wind and I would use the inside of the dome as a garden and some rabbits, quail and maybe a few goats. The dome would shed water I could collect where it meets the ground in a series of gutters and cisterns. SOme of the water could be ran through a fish pond to recycle the fish poop. Since the water has to run from ground level into cisterns you could funnel it to turn a water wheel for some power.
I don't think I would even have to worry about heating or cooling the underground chambers, just control the temp in the dome like a green house.
Use the dirt from the construction to build some berms to hide the place some and to funnel the wind into a wind tunnel for ventilation and maybe even some power generation.
Just some ideas I have been kicking around since I am starting from scratch in TN W.

I always say "something is better than nothing" but I don't understand your logic. Why such a big investment in something so obvious which is the point of the whole thread. Your half dome will be sticking out of the ground calling attention to your location.

Ceorlmann would be happy to occupy that last spot all by himself. I think Mrs. Ceorlmann (and just maybe the immediate clan) could visit...

Living hidden is no small feat as there are many matters to consider. The physical structure itself must be contained so as to offer little or no profile. That means basically going underground which is not possible in all locations due to the water table. It also means issues with venting for fresh air, drainage, waste, fire escape, and cooking. Generators require soundproofing, venting, and hidden fuel sources. If you plan to have a garden, finding room for that and running artificial light underground would be tough too. A garden above needs a clearing and will be evidence you are nearby. Access to your underground palladium has to be hidden as well. What good is a driveway that leads up to to your door step with the BOV parked out front? All this on top of living isolated. The boredom of living in a bunker can be an insidious enemy of its own and in a group setting can produce a whole bunch of problems. Not to mention disruption in circadian rhythms.
Basically what Im saying is that we leave a bigger footprint than we may realize sometimes and to go completely underground may take more planning and resource than first anticipated. Not saying it cant be done, especially for short term living. Over the long haul, most of us were meant to live in the light of day on the earth, not under it.
In conclusion, I feel the best survival tactic is a small, tight nit, well led community of varied individuals who all share overlapping core values of God, family and common sense.

Yeah I'll take my chances above ground. I've all of eternity to be underground. (although once I die I'm going the way I fear most while I'm living...cremation)
