At the end I posted some pics, one pic shows a careless persons campfire. As I walked out I noticed the still warm campfire with leaves around the outside half burned. Yes I did put it out but what a bunch of butt heads.

Your wooly bear seemed quite a bit larger than ours here. I've never seen them so small, barely thicker than a pencil, and that includes the fuzzy part.

Dang OT you got me hungry for a can of beans too. Yes I like your grill with its retractable handle. I'm biding my time and just know I'll come across one. I do have grills of various sizes but none of them have handles. I practice starting fires with the caps in my grill and am getting better each time. It is a unique technique you came up with and a roll of caps does go a long way. As to whoever left their campfire still smoldering, they're simply an idiot. Glad you took care of it and are more conscientious when you make yours. Loved the extra pics and enjoyed one more trek in the woods with you.

It may never catch on but toy cap fires help extend the life of your main fire starting methods. One less flick of the Bic, less strikes on the firesteel. I collected some milkweed seed fluff today, going to use it in place of cotton with the caps

Nice video and pics. You are lucky you can stop and build a fire to cook food with, as well as those that are in areas that allow it. Up in northern NH in order to have a fire you must have the landowners permission, and you must be in possession of a valid issued fire permit (from local Fire Warden or Ranger) that describes what category fire you are allowed to build. They are restricted, for the most part, to between the hours of 5PM-9AM, and certain weather conditions must be taken into consideration. On federal or state land they are restricted to campgrounds or designated fire pits along hiking trails. Takes the fun out of spontaneous hiking or camping IMHO.

Jim I hear you loud and clear, without fire camping would be boring. Winter camping trips would be far and few between. Nothing like a fire to keep you company, warm and well fed. State parks around here do not allow open fires as well. lived in this area all my life so I know where to build a fire and not build a fire.

It's another option and I like options. There are two fire starting methods, quick fires and time on your hand methods. Of course the caps fall in the time on your hands method and a roll of caps does go a long way. I keep mine in a film canister along with cotton and a gator clip to protect the roll of caps from the high humidity in my area otherwise they'll be useless and I have made several of these kits for various bags I keep them in along with other fire starting items.

You need to test some of the caps just to see if the dampness does affect them. I don't mean leave them in the rain or out in the open for the morning due to soak them. But take a few and leave in an unsealed container just to see how they hold up. That is the way I keep mine and never had a problem. I know you have lots more humidity then Ohio so it would be very interesting to see if they hold up with just a little protection

I'm going to have to wait to watch this OT. Even when I post my own videos all I get is a black screen. I think the service we have only allows a certain amount of download per month. It sounds like a great video!
