Well heck I thought the carbon one was only the 9mm carbine... Is there an issue with them? Guess I'll have to do some checking on it. It is very lite weight. It's shoots like crazy. 150 rounds (5 mags, all loaded with different brand) through it out of the box and it shoots great. Actually I was surprised with the factory mounted red dot. It was dead on at 100 yards. If it's carbon, we will find out I guess. Jimmy

I have a Bushmaster Carbon 15 with the factory red dot, it is very accurate and has never malfunctioned, I've had one (1) round not eject but it was a bad round, the edge of the casing actually broke off so the ejector had nothing to grab onto in order to eject. I mostly shoot crappy rounds through it such as Tul-Ammo or whatever. I've sent thousands of rounds through it!

He said the lite weight would be a plus for me. More testing this weekend. Jimmy

Jimmy,
I missed the fact that you bought it! I was being dense in thinking that you were passing along a good deal in your message.
Yeah, you will indeed love it. As you know, I blew off the little round for a long time - and I still think that the .30-06 is the best all around cartridge when you factor in cost, availability, down range energy, and a looooong history of reliably taking all types of big game.
But, you just can't beat the 5.56/.223 for a rapid fire, accurate round to punch holes in most things - close up or far away - a whole bunch of times in a row. And then do it another 30 times inside of the same circle with the next mag.
Man, you are big bore guy, so I never figured you would go down that road! I would have left you with some 62gr green tipped, some 77gr HP and a handful of hyper velocity 45gr polymer tipped rounds to try out.
Marc

Hey Jimmy isn't a big bore.. he's actually quite humorous.. oh wait... you were talking about his rifle.. I see. lol Around here there has been a shortage of 30-30 and 30.06 rounds during deer season. Evidently they are still a go to rifle. So AFTER deer season I'm going to have to stock up on some more 30-30 (for my neighbors of course because I don't own any). Although redneckidokie thinks I've already purchased more than my share I think..

Congrats Jimmy. I love mine. I hunted with a 30-06 for years before I realized that around here, it's way too much gun. Unless I'm hunting on power lines, the odds of getting a shot better than 30 or 40 yards is slim. A lot of folks here use 30-30. I opted for a Marlin 44. Takes the same ammo as one of my handguns. Is a small compact rifle for going through heavy brush, and has the punch to drop about anything around here.

The first version of that rifle was built by a company called professional ordnance. That particular carbon15 was a POS and rift with problems. The earlier versions had a problem with the trigger group pins ( in particular the hammer pin ) walking, as well as the detent slots cracking. Several of the parts were also of proprietary design and could not interchange with standard AR parts. They went under several years ago as a company, and bushmaster bought the rights to it.
For Bushmasters part, they also had problems in the early going discovering the hard way why it was professional ordinance made the proprietary changes that they did. Those areas were redesigned by Bushmaster with no subsequent problems reported. In saying that, the reputation of the original professional ordinance version has reared its head for the new version even though there is no real problem with it.
The only real downside I am aware of for them is they are not well suited for tinkering. The pin holes will wear out faster than the standard version will. However, that is also an upside to it depending on how you look at it. Unlike it's mil spec hardened 7075 breathern, you will not have a problem oversize boring the pin holes and inserting a brass fitting to bring it back into tolerance. Theoretically, it can be bored several times before you have to trash it as the receiver is homogeneous throughout rather than multilayered like the aluminum variant. With the aluminum version, those holes will only take one or two cycles of that before the the inserts themselves wallow out the holes.

Small update.
Got to run some rounds through it yesterday. 300 rounds in 3 different brands of mags and 4 different brands of bullets. Shot prefect with all. Very pleased so far.

Jimmy I figured that you were going to really like it! Depending on where you are shooting, set up some pieces of normal building materials to get a feel for penetration. It can be an eye opener with some loads. Once you settle on a particular cartridge, it won't take long to a pretty good feel for hold over at longer ranges. Can't beat an AR15 for fast handling, lightweight versatility, with a high rate of fire! Marc

I wasn't implying anything was wrong. Just curious about the results of trying it out.
