On the first of the month I was at the hospital for a follow-up cat scan which was done at 11:30, right before lunch. I decided to kill some time till the cafeteria opened and went walk through the gift shop. Prices were outrageous. Twenty bucks for an insulated Saints mug six inches tall, I don't think so. Then I saw it, a nice looking walking stick, handle is engraved, button compass in top of handle, leather strap for wrist holding and all stained and so pretty. Price tag read $7.99 or so I thought. Went to register where the lighting was better and it was $47.99, that figures. Asked the cashier to check the price 'cause it was leaning against a shelf posted with sale items. Marked down to $11.99, yes indeed, my kind of sale. Now I bring my walking stick around with me for just in case. Got home today from another doc appt., everything is checking out fine, yay, and was looking at my walking stick. I was thinking how nice it would be if it was made for James Bond with a sword on the tip or even a flounder gig tip. I decided to remove the rubber foot and lo and behold it has a metal pointed tip. Looked it up and these are handy while walking on icy surfaces and hiking mountainous regions. Well you know what, now I know just maybe if I need it I will be able to do some serious damage with it. Too, maybe I can have someone drill in deeper to set me a double edged blade in it.

Who knows I may start a trend. I see so many people leaning over while walking with their canes 'cause the dang things are too short. Over the years the poor souls become hump-backed from doing so. No cane in my future if I can help it.

Everyone should have a good walking stick. But it does look more natural on us old(er) farts.
If you have a good 4 to 5 foot walking stick you don't need a point or bug sapper on the end.
Learn to use it and no one will get within 4 to 5 feet of you without knots and broken bones.
Its all in the skill of the mechanics of the tool.
More on this later.

Howsomever, a point or a sapper couldn't hurt while you learn to use that quarterstaff A side note: I can not even remember the times I got reamed-out (its a good word, look it up, "Top-Sgts are famous for it) for disarming someone who had a knife or other weapon with my nite stick instead of using my handgun. But it was faster, unexpected and worked for me. Give the the longer riot stick and I could have handled most anything (I did say could, I'm an old fart now, but I can still knock knots on heads)

The ice age is coming the ice age is coming.
Then its going to hit the desert in AZ and we will have ice sickles on the cactus.
Pertty!
The only place I ever saw more snow at one time then in Rifle Co. Actually in one of the passes North of Rifle. 8', let me say that again, 8'. Now I know some people have seen more, but this is me.
So the second deepest was in the high desert of AZ. The cactus arms were touching the snow. (because the snow was 4' high) All gone by noon the next day and only about a gallon of run off)
In CO. they have these 6' tall poles on the road side in the passes so you know where the edge of the road is. But not in AZ. Is like they never expected it to snow a lot in the desert. I wonder why.
Anyway! You know what they got to warn you you are driving off the road in AZ?
Road bumps, those little clacker things that make your wheels go clack clack clack clack when these new idiot truckers run off the road. It wakes them up.
Thats what they have in the desert. No ditch, no marker above the snow, just a few clackers and the road gets rougher cause you ain't on it any more.
Its snowing so hard and so fast you would swear someone is on your roof dumping buckets on your windshield, cause by the time your wiper blade gets to one side the other side is already covered, so what happens when you get to a curve in the road in the desert where its just one big flat expanse of unbroken snow? It gets rougher because you are off of the road and it is snowing so hard and it is night and then there is this large two armed cactus standing in front of you with his elbows in the snow.
Who put that thing in the middle of the road?
Good thing there wasn't a ravine there first. I decided right then and there I would stop trying to drive and wait for daylight or an AZ eskimo which ever came first.
Since the snow kept falling and covered all of the car deep enough no light could get through it was all melted by the time I woke up and not even any mud. Dry snow. Its a desert.
So what does that have to do with a walking stick?
If the dang catus had had a walking stick he would have known better than to walk onto the road.

I'm glad he walked there so you'd be safe and stop trying to drive on the desert sand. Cactus with a walking stick...
