Bought some ounces that are made to quarter by perforations. Don't have a lot but enough to trade for gas or food in a pinch. Most importantly in a carryable weight. That sounds like a good idea. Haven't seen those.

Got them at nwtmint.com. Not advertising for them but the price seemed fair. I am sure there are others that make similar. I didn't get a lot since it is for BOB barter material, not long term investment and wealth hiding.
Also little pieces of metal get heavy if you have a pile. Oh and gold coins/kugerands are great for size and value density. But who can make change?
I figure the 1/4 oz pieces are worth about 5 bucks each, so a bar is roughly a $20.

I am expecting 17.50 range. However, availability will be next to nothing @ that price. 18.75 will be all in for me.

What silver weights would be better to purchase in your opinion? I'm considering 2 thirds in 1 oz. rounds and 1 third in 100 oz. bars.

If your trying to store value, anything over 10 oz of silver should be gold. A 2:3 ratio of silver coins (eagles etc) : silver bullion (rounds) in 1 ounce increments is what I practice.

Availability did not track as I thought it would. mobile.apmex.com/product/27024/1-oz-Silver-Round-APMEXSpot premium has definitely increased nearly everywhere. It's 500 or more ounces to get back to .99 over spot. That's a ~33% increase. By the ounce it is at 2.50 over spot at the moment (19.76). Supply is getting really tight right now and the paper price has definitely uncoupled from that of physical. If it continues in this manner, paper will get down to 14-15. Actual hands on silver will still be around 19. Gold will drop back again, but not by much. It has more availability though. It's single ounce spot premium is 30 bucks making it ~1242 an ounce. The spot premium has been reduced by 3 dollars on average. More supply than demand. The entire precious metals market has been turned on its ear. One has to ask why.

I had been watching it drop all morning and finally called in an order to NWT for 1,000 oz. @ $17.00 about 12:12PM when it started to rise briefly. Then it turned back and dropped below $17.00. OUCH! Oh well, so much for speculation.

Thanks. I will check them out. I did a little shopping at Gainesville on their top sellers of the day page. With the price per ounce being what it is I hopefully can't make a bad choice.

I've been tracking silver along with exhange rates of foreign currencies.
Compared to August the Euro has fallen in value compared to the US dollar. I have 47 eurocents leftover from my 2012 trip. They were worth app 64 cents in August, but now about 59 cents. The Euro's value was pretty consistent for awhile compared to the dollar. Swiss francs have also changed exchange value. I've accumulated a little over 120 CHF which at one point was worth the upper $130s, but now is in the upper $120s. Again value was consistent for awhile with maybe a fee dollars in fluctuation.
Back to silver I'm sure my wife wants to kick me for buying it when it was in the 19-20 per ounce area. The ones who I think were really idiotic were those who bought it during the $45 per ounce jump.
