Funny - but I didn't see clear descriptions of the perpetrators in that article. Where they short? Were they tall? Were they they skinny, heavy or average?
Self defense laws are different in different areas - depending upon where you live, you can be convicted for defending yourself. I like the laws here in Texas.

They were three black women, one was pregnant and I couldn't tell their ht/wt. but evidently one knew how to throw a punch. Cause they sure hit him right on his cheekbone and broke the skin from the looks of his face. Three against one, women or not they are being charged. I suppose he did the right thing by not hitting her back but..... Sometimes you have to defend yourself and the grandson. Seems like they thought they could bully him into moving.

I do believe that I would not have restrained myself from hitting a woman if she had landed a punch like that. Nope.....I think I would have beat the dog food out of her.

This reminds me of CCMama's Wallyworld episode with her grandsons by her side while trying to prevent a man from cutting ahead of her in line. She stuck to her guns too! Thank god he didn't sucker punch her cuz she probably would've torn him into shreds once she reeled back from his attack and then claimed temporary insanity.

I have to tell on myself here.
Made a traffic stop as an MP on a black woman. While I was talking to her she tried to restart the car and drive away. It was just dark and my partner who she didn't see was crouched down at the front of her car getting the decal number.
I reached in and pulled the car out of gear and took her keys.
She came out of that car like water boiling over a pot. When she took a swing at me I just reacted and put a restraint hold on her hand and arm. Broke her dang fingers like a dry stick. Dang! It was a good thing my partner was black or they might have hung us.
I don't know who was more surprised when her fingers broke her or me. I did that hold a 100K times on men and only broke a few fingers. Such a dainty little 300 lber

One time we did a boarding at Lake Ozark, there were about five on the pontoon boat. There was this one gal, I swear, if she had gone off it would have been almost a fair fight (for us ) against me and my partner (he was 6,4" 260). This gal was big and had that look that she could duke like a man. Anyway, they were actually peaceful and I'll never forget her tattoo- in script it said "Angels of Mace, Not Women of Grace". Real classy!

Hey USCG that was my prom date in 1969. She was Co captain of the football team and an all state wrestler. But the most fun was to watch her in ballet class. In combat boots

Its so strange to me that it is not a common right to defend oneself, though for me it is. As the old adage says...I rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.... Jimmy

There you go dead men don't testify
Unless you have Biden as the coroner and Alex Cross as the investigator.
In that case the dead guy might testify.
But.......... sense mites/might(s) crawl on a chickens butt, 2 to the chest and 2 to the head works for me.

You might not believe it with my sweet and caring disposition
But I was charged more times then I want to remember with police brutality while an MP. I know, I know, it doesn't sound possible.
At one time it seemed to be at epidemic proportions.
It was so bad we had a legal officer teach a class in "How To Legally Hit Somebody" and "How To Testify When Charged With Police Brutality".
I don't think those were actually the titles, but they were the subject matter. Worked too
I did break bones, I did sucker punch and I did shoot first. When you are an MP and need to take a trained to kill Marine into custody, there isn't much give and take time. You give them an inch and they would stick it up your patootee.
I did say "CHARGED" never convicted.

There are an essentially infinite number of potential threat scenarios. And there are a like number of responses to those threats. While there are most certainly times to "take a bullet" for the right reason, it is important to understand that sometimes rule one applies:
My first rule of survival: Survive………

I been shot twice, five times if you count shotgun pellets (although 2 of those times were just to run me off the water melon patch)
Stabbed once, slashed twice.
Broken bones from a tire iron and a chain.
Concussions from a ball bat and a beer mug.
And more lesser injuries then I can remember
But I survived, I'm still here, I won, they lost
Yeah! Its a good rule.

Indeed - survival beat the alternative each time
