We use crab traps in Virginia, you are aloud 2 per person on 5 for $36.00 for recreational use. The crab traps are about 2½ square feet, and they have a pocket for bait, usually fish carcasses (I use croakers that I have taken the fillets out of), between my DW and I that is 4 traps, we can get about 60+ crabs on a good day, you put a crab trap maker tied to a rope and the trap for identification and to pull the crab out of the water into the boat with a hook. You can check the pots once in the mornings or several times depending how bad you want to eat crab cakes or steam crabs with boiled corn and good beer.

Just to show what a crab trap looks like, I picked this video that shows you how to bait the trap with fish heads. I a survival situation this traps are great because you can catch crabs, fish, and eels while you are away doing something else. www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZqxHo5qYcQ&feature=related

That sounds like a whole lotta fun Mike. They sound like a miniature of the traps they use on "The Deadliest Catch" Is that close? Is that a license fee? And how long is it good for, a season, a year or what? I could see me gettin all over some of that for sure. I guess they would have some sorta commercial license too right? You better watch out. If I get a windfall of some sort I might be headed your way for some schoolin on how is the best way I can catch me a good case of 'crabs' ....hehehehehe!!!

Thanks, glad you liked the video. I'm with you, those crabs looked delicious. Sadly I have to suffer through another huge slab of Memphis Style dry rub ribs. I cooked/smoked them for about 8+ hours yesterday and must have done something terribly wrong! The flavor is to die for but all of the meat just simply slides off the bones because it is so moist and tender!

Cool video. Until your videos (yoyo and trotline), I'd never seen precisely how to use either method. Until I got to know the folks here, I'd never heard of either one. The trotline method was pretty intuitive; I might've made an extra loop rather than use the beads, kind of like this _0_0_0_0_. Still, it's a cool way to fish without having to be there.
Heh, can you tell I was raised in a city?

I have made many a line just the way you mention, tying plain overhand loops to space the drop lines. I will still use them when I have a certain spot that I may want to make up say a short line with just a few hooks on it. And there's not a thing at all with being raised it the city. It's all about learning new a different things! At least it is for me. Oh, I also live in town. I have just been fortunate enough to have a desire and the opportunities to be either in the woods or on the water.

Yep your hooked ;D ;D ;D as long as you don't say lights camera action before each video.....there's still hope for you Why Thank You Buddy! So are you telling me that my idea of a makeup artist, costumes and a stunt double is still a little ways off? You do know this is all your fault to start with right? ;D I can see you making better videos then I. I'm just not into editing my movies but the people that do have some great videos. I can see you doing this as you get better ;D Stunt double that's funny ;D ;D ;D
