Is that one made from a rifle barrel? That was a favorite of some of the old timers when metal was scarce. Good throwers need tapered eyes so the handle drops in from the top. The one in the picture is a hammer style handle and would not stand too many hard hits. I have an eye drift and have made a few from 50 cal octagon barrels. Others out of 52100 billets. Hawks are kewl!

I have the Trail Hawk, Rifleman's Hawk, and the Pipe Hawk. The Pipe Hawk is by far my favorite. It throws well, splits wood well, and the hammer poll is solid. They sharpen nice too. The Rifleman's Hawk is a bit heavy but still throwable. The Trail Hawk's head makes wood processing problematic. They all throw fairly well. I advise you remove the set screw as it will just get in the way. You may also want to wrap the top of the handle in a layer or two of athletic tape to prevent the head from cutting deeply into the wood.
