These two Waylon songs are probably the ones that sound like they were written for/about me, everytime I hear them I relate them to events as many songs do.

youtu.be/9jJf-p6RYvoTroubadour By George Strait I still feel twenty five, Most of the time I still raise a little cain with the boysHonky tonks and pretty women Lord I'm still right there with them Singing above the crowd and the noise [Chorus] Sometimes I feel like Jesse James, Still trying to make a name Knowing nothings gonna change what I amI was a young troubadour, When I rode in on a song And I'll be an old troubadour, When I'm goneWell, the truth about a mirror, It's that a damn old mirror Don't really tell the whole truth, It don't show what's deep inside Oh read between the lines, It's really no reflection of my youth[Chorus] [Repeat x2] I was a young troubadour, When I rode in on a song And I'll be an old troubadour, When I'm gone I'll be an old troubadour, When I'm gone Songwriters: SATCHER, LESLIE / HOLMES, MONTY

Well... Here I thought you'd invented it. AH you need to expand your musical listening repertoire. Who doesn't know Waylon and Willie and The Boys? Why, one would think you live in.... Oops! Never mind.

Ah, Waylon Jennings, how I miss him. Who can name The Highwaymen without looking up the answer. Talent like they had doesn't exist today. Willie and Kris are the only two left. Like Hollywood, the legends of country music are slowly fading away.

But this one, this is the real deal, me 100% This and KK Why Me Lord say it all. "Revelation" If you have never heard this please listen to it, its for your own good. youtu.be/ZQNxiV88tVU Somewhere in Vietnam a 19-year-old soldier Walked out of a barroom And he said, I must be seeing things That bourbon hit me like a baseball bat In Bellfast Ireland a little lady Dropped her shovel in her garden She raced across the yard And ask her neighbor Mrs Clancy, what was that. In Memphis Tennessee a teacher Raised the window, closest the river And the children in her classroom swore They'd heard a choir singing down the street In Washington DC A private secretary's lips began to quiver And the President just put aside his papers And rose quickly to his feet. I lay in a cheap motel in the arms Of someone else's woman When a loud explosion rocked the room And turned the morning into night I jumped out of bed and ran into the street With hardly any clothes on As the sky lit up my heart stood still And I could feel my face was turnin' white. All at once the clouds rolled back And there stood Jesus Christ in all his glory And I realized the saddest eyes I'd ever seen were lookin' straight at meI guess I was awakened by The penetrating sounds of my own screamin' And it didn't take me long to stumble Out of bed and fall down on my knees. As tears rolled down my face I cried Dear God, I'm thankful I was only dreamin' And if I never go to hell, Lord It'll be because you scared it out of me...

Well... Here I thought you'd invented it. AH you need to expand your musical listening repertoire. Who doesn't know Waylon and Willie and The Boys? Why, one would think you live in.... Oops! Never mind. It's merely a matter of different musical taste. A lot of folks have tried to get me to listen to their stuff with the intent of converting my preferences. I'll listen to just about anything but very seldom like it enough to return to it. Food, aside from peppery-spicy is the same; I'll try just about anything, but don't assume that I'm going to want to eat it for the rest of my life. Most of the music [that which contains both melody and rhythm] out there does absolutely nothing for me. I could turn it and ask you why you don't enjoy listening to the Cambridge Singers performing John Rutter's works, for instance, or to Beethoven Op. 78 as played by Rudolph Serkin, or to Grofe's Grand Canyon Suite as performed by the Cleveland Orchestra (the definitive version, for me). That's the kind of music that moves me.

You make the assumption that I don't. In high school I was in marching band, concert band and stage band (lots of 40s music). I had the lead roles in two high school plays one of which was a musical. I was in select choir. Had season tickets to Tulsa Symphony and attended other symphonies. I've taken in ballet, opera, Broadway musicals and plays. I believe a well rounded interest in performing and visual arts provides an appreciation of our culture.
Of course I can sit on a fence in my wranglers and boots, spit and whittle, singing along with lots of George (Jones and Strait), Merle and Willie and Waylon and the Boys.
So I don't expect anyone to have to take a steady diet of any one genre. But at least listen to it enough to appreciate it. Or know that you can't stand it (rap for me). Twice bitten has almost convinced me to give Mountain Music another try. I can listen for short periods of time and come back to it and enjoy it. Same with Cajun music.
Our differences are what makes us unique. Keeps this forum lively.
