I scored pretty big this last week.
I live next to a major electric power-line. For the past few weeks there have been various crews out to survey the right-of -way and have even been doing several aerial surveys by helicopter. The actual crew came out and began the work of trimming the brush and trees away from the lines and tower structures. Now all of these trees, including mine are very old mature Pecans. When I had a chance I went out and struck up a conversation with the guys and we talked about this and that for a good long while and then I asked them if they could leave everything they cut off of me on my ground. They kinda looked at me funny but said "Sure" I told them that I like to use Pecan to smoke my deer meat and such and that's when we started talking about smoking meat, BBQ and of course Deer Hunting!
They went back to work and said they would just leave my trimmings where they lay. Well before I knew it their work day was over and they were back over at my place. They had stopped by to tell me they went ahead and cut the rest of the larger Pecan for me and made it all about firewood length. I was thrilled to see what they had piled up for me! Not only that but they came back the next day and cut several more huge trees and stacked up all the "good stuff" for me close to my place.
So now it looks like I need to get serious about building the proper full size smokehouse that I have wanted for so long. I'm mulling around several different designs right now but if any of you currently have and use a good smoke house I would sure be interested in the details of it.
I wasn't real sure where to put this? I thought preserving the hunt would be good but then I thought it should be in the food deal but no, I'm gonna use it for smoking my tanned hides as well so......maybe what I did today?? I just put it here!
Here's my new wood pile.
