As times seem to sliding further down the proverbial ladder of doom I will make this one suggestion to keep your vehicles tanked up.
Sorry Jimmy, hope you don't think I'm going off the rail of the topic of your thread.

Not Jimmy but I think it prudent to resurrect some of the past discussions

Course during 'cane season I always do. If I need to run from a storm or need generator fuel, a full tank is smart. Jimmy

Lots of fun breaking out the welder next to 35 gal high test.

I don't keep much gasoline any more. Instead I have 2 500 gallon propane tanks and conversions on generator, welder, truck, etc. to run on propane if required.

I have 10 five gallons gas containers filled. I'm working myself up to 20 but they sure did skyrocket in price.

im working my way to a propane generator.i already have 2 old 30LB tanks that was given me.i simply have to clean them up,repaint them.then take them in and get new values put in and inspected.then refilled.cheaper that way, compared to buying new ones..this way i wont have to worry about the extra gas for a generator.and dont have to worry about a carburetor gumming up..and the propane generators are much much quieter..

preparednessadvice.com/fuels/tri-fuel-generator-conversions/#.WA0z2dQrKK4www.motorsnorkel.com/www.dslreports.com/forum/r27708944-Convert-from-gasoline-to-tri-fuelwww.propanecarbs.com/I have converted a Diesel GMC truck to tri fuel, it was easy to do. I have a generator and a welding machine which has electrical outlets so it functions as a generator, a bike and a golf cart that run on propane. Conversion was not hard. One problem with trying to run off a generator is surging, where the motor slows then picks back up. Surging kills electronics. Think what a power surge can do and its the same. So far I have not found any solution to surging, any fuel I run does the same when trying to maintain a fast idle. Best to charge electronic and run off battery power. Battery offers a good steady run until it starts to lose its charge. Running from a generator to DC to constant charge a battery bank then back to AC and to the electronic works better than a straight run off the generator. Just my experience, not saying I ain't doing something wrong but it is what I have found to be with the hardware I have. the surging doesn't matter much in the vehicles but it does with the welder, but speeding up the idle cures that but uses lots more fuel.

I have been thinking on converting my generator to tri fuel. If I understand correctly, propane will last almost indefinitely???
Is there any information on x amount of propane is equal to y amount of gasoline, as far as running a generator? I know that there are a lot of variables (amount of load, type of generator, etc.) But any rule of thumb?

Each source of energy has a finite amount of energy per unit of measure. The above is in mega joules per liter on the vertical, and by the kilogram on the horizontal. You can work out the conversion here; www.unitconversion.org/unit_converter/energy.html

The whole bag thing has changed radically over the last 4 or 5 years for me at least. As we discussed before in earlier posts, the bug out idea is no longer a plan for me, unless natural disasters intervene. However the car n truck, if I am away from home will pretty much sustain life on Mars. Just gettin too dam old to enjoy, ''living in a van, down by the river!'' A fact many people overlook...age! Every BOB and EDC should be age appropriate and suited to the individuals need and skill level. Also most people have little skill collecting wild food sources, if you live in cold climate then food can be very hard to come by. For older survivors having secrets stashes could make the difference between living or dying.

Even if you travel you can always come back for some needed supplies, it's great to have that option...turn that frown upside down.
