Had a small wasp nest in a vent on the side of the chiminey. I bumped it and got stung twice. Told Lyd to not come this way and she got one on the arm. Girl just dont listen sometimes Little ice for me and a couple welts and Im good. Lyds is a little more red and swollen. None of us are that allergic we need epi-pens but, Im gonna get one just in case we have an incident with mass stings. Normally these wasps are slow and not too aggressive around here but the heat must have them going. Any tips on stings ya'll use?

baking powder made into a paste and applied will cool and help with the swelling
make sure a stinger didn't stay in, although it's hard to tell once it swells
My Brother and I used to knock the nests down and fight them with bad mitten or table tennis paddles, got stung a lot mostly yellow jackets, but some red hornets
then one day I got stung on the arm and swelled up like a balloon all over, but already had an epi-pen because I used to take penicillin until I was taking a massive dose one in each arm then the next day one in each cheek for 7 days due to an infection from a dog bite. One the 4th day I went into shock leaving the Dr office and ended up in the hospitial
I was born allergic to codeine but over time I am now allergic to cod/morp/cipro/sulfa/penc and insect bites
got epi pens every where, they do work

Funny you say that about baking soda. I finally found my little bottle of bee and wasp sting stuff and its a solution with that very ingredient. Thanks bud.

Avoidance, avoidance, avoidance... then +1 to woodyz. I have some of the same allergies plus extreme sensitivity to some other substances. Diphenhydramine is my friend. So far, I haven't needed to use an EpiPen but I'm not looking forward to the next sting.
Baking soda paste has worked on me, but it only alleviates the immediate pain, not the post-sting pain/itch/pain/itch cycle that lasts for days.

Old time remedy is wet tobacco held on the spot to draw out the poison.
The most horrible sting I ever got was by a very small species in size mostly black with small yellow lines on it. It isn't what I'm familiar with which we call a yellow jacket. Their bodies are about half the size of a honey bee.
The sting was on the tip of my index finger and no matter what I did the pain lasted well into the night. I tried anything and everything including placing my finger on ice cubes to get relief but nothing worked, not even tobacco. If a child got stung by one of these I have much pity for them knowing what I went through.
Normally if I get stung I just brush it off, no biggie. Not that time and I hope to never get stung by those again. I had a box of clothing in storage and they had chewed clothing to make a nest. I doused the nest, then counted one hundred fifty-three of those little suckers on that nest.

BTW - that sting did redden up and had an enduration. Im not so lucky afterall I guess. Little Prid salve on it and it took about half the redness out. Should be better by tomorrow.

I have had way too many run-ins with wasps, hornets and bees....
19 stings from bumble bees....that one was taken care of at a friends pool.... chlorine will take care of them too....
We have a verison called Red Wasps. They build LARGE multiple cells paper nest. Especially under eve's of buildings. They are big critters and their sting is nearly as bad as a hornet.
I keep some stuff called Sting-Eze. We had it in our fak at work for years. It's thin green liquid and it will give just about instant relief and most times stops any further problems. It's always worked well for me.
Hope yours have gotten ok by now.
Jimmy
