I'm wondering how much water I add to my pressure canner (16 QT Presto) when canning meat. I've been reading alot on it and if I'm right it sounds like I add 2Qts. of water to the pot. Can anyone with experience respond please? My other question is if I originally freeze game until I have time to can them is that okay to freeze/thaw/can? Thanks.

Mines a Presto 23 qt and it has a "fill line" on the inside up from the bottom to mark how much water to add. Check with the Mfg. and follow Mfg. instructions. Down load a manual if you don't have yours. I wouldn't take "internet" advice on this type of canning. Just gotta do this right! Here ya go: www.gopresto.com/downloads/instructions/01755.pdfThere is also another edition: www.gopresto.com/downloads/instructions/0174510.pdfBoth indicate 3 qts. water in canner. Don't take my word . . . read it yourself to make absolutely sure.

I contacted the manufacturer Presto. They said regardless what I'm canning I should have 3 qts of water in the canner. I also asked them if I had meat/game in the freezer could I thaw, prep for canning and then can the originally frozen meat, they said no problem. I just wanted to share the response. Thanks for all the replys.
