I have some family members that are asking me about those long term food storage kits (like Wise, Augason, etc.L). I have been trying to make my own, but since I had the epic fail with the stored pinto beans not getting soft when i tried to cook some, I am looking into these again.
I looked into some old posts and Cajun Lady was NOT impressed with Augason (sp??) items.
So does anyone have a vendor that they do like? Wise, Emergency Essentials, etc?

Oh, about the Pintos. A couple ideas:
1) I've pressure cooked 6+ year old dry beans. Be careful with cooking dry beans in a cooker. Never fill over 1/2 full including water and add a bit of oil to reduce foaming. If it does clog the cooker "most likely" the only thing that will happen is it will blow the pressure safety valve and you'll have to clean the kitchen and your pants. 2) Dry beans and be milled/ground and included in bread and a variety of other dishes or used as "refried" beans. Most likely you'd only want to do this in a "survival" situation.

soak the beans over night so they swell first then put in pressure cooker at half

Thank you for the link. I tried to search for the info, but evidently I can't use the search feature very well.
