Went to start my car Sunday morning to take kids to church and "cllick"! Dang. Well, with some you tube help and common fix it sense, I boldly determine I need a new starter . $170 and a couple hours later, I have it installed and badda bing....turn the key and... "click"! $&!+! Spend next $129 on a battery..."click"! Next day, More google, more you tube, and I'm all over the place trying to puzzle out what I thought was a bad ground short. Well, for the low low price of a 12 pk of Miller Light, my neighbor is helping me out and apparently he is better at this than me cause within an hour (and good diagnostic skills) he has definitely got my problem isolated to the NEW starter I put in had a blown solenoid! Exchanged it at auto parts store, reinstalled it last night and back on the road! Lessons learned 1) test things like starters before installing them first. 2) Felt good because I had diagnosed original problem correctly, just had an unfortunate turn of fate with the new part. 3) A good voltmeter is a necessity (gonna get one soon) 4) Asking for help is ok and it's good to be good to good neighbors. Lastly, it did make me realize my battery was aged (5+ yrs) and that was a no start waiting to happen. Very frustrating process though when u have to get alternate rides to work and the part store etc.

Days like that make you want to beat him over the head with his law book.
